Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Started when I was just putting something into the car, as the speedometer display came on without me pressing the power button in the car or my my remote/app. Walked over to the driver side, and tried starting car approx. 10 times and speedometer display would come up with all of the warning lights lit. Occasionally a "Service Airbag" message came on. Also when on, the screen would jump between dim and bright about every 3 seconds. Sometimes it wouldn't let me put the car into gear, and other times when I put the car into gear there was no propulsion.

It did this once about a week ago, and I was hoping that this was a one off thing, but every time I have started my car today, I have had to go thru this. Dealership is closed today due to the weather. Will call them tomorrow. Any ideas, or any questions for me?

Off the top of my head, have you checked the 12v battery? The year of the car would help, as well as mileage. :)

Did you press the start button quickly 10 times or did you try remote starting it 10 times? Remote start will not work unless you press the lock button first and ALL doors are shut including the hatch. Then you must push and hold the remote until it starts. You must then press the start button on the dash with the remote in the vehicle before the gear shift will move. Both are part of the anti theft function.
If you were using the start button was your foot on the brake pedal?

There were some problems with a shifter solenoid IIRC with the 2017's.

Look in this subforum that you posted in for similar cases.

If you're getting random "Service XXXX" messages, you have a dead 12V battery. Either something drained the battery, or the battery itself is defective. Your dealer should be able to do a free test to see if it's defective or not and it should be covered under warranty if it is. In the meantime, jump start the car with another vehicle or try plugging in your EVSE charger and starting it.

Alternately, it can be a loose battery cable such as this one example:

Some intermittent electrical problems have cropped up on SOME Gen2 Volts.
It appears the poorly aligned 12V battery cable connection at the back of the underhood fuseblock MAY account for some of those
As such GM has decided to issue a Service Update Campaign # 16017 -Battery Cable Misaligned
specifically for units in currently dealer inventory.

But it sure wouldn't hurt to take a look at YOUR Volt. (see photos below)

If the connection is misaligned- see your dealer!!

With all the computers in the Volt, it can do some very strange things if there is unstable 12V power.

I keep forgetting to check this on mine...

Dropped off at dealer. Of course it was fine today. I called Onstar today, didn't know that was an option. They couldn't see any current codes, and I guess they can't pull up past history.
Were you seeing "shift to park" on the message on the dash display?

With the Volt, simply bringing the keyfab out of range seems to reset some functions of the car...Been reported a few times on here...

I was not getting the shift to park message. Key fob was in my coat pocket, of the coat I wear to work daily. Sounds like the dealer did see some "communication" codes, so waiting to hear back additional information from them tomorrow. The dealership had their tech who worked on electric cars come and ask me a bunch of questions to try to troubleshoot the issue, and see if he could replicate. All of the instances happened when my car was not in our garage, so they are going to try to start tomorrow morning after leaving it outside tonight on a fairly cold night to see if that is a contributing factor. I also mentioned the campaign info listed above for the 12V battery.

Body Control Module was replaced and updated. They did a test drive this morning, and the car was fine. They did another test drive this afternoon and same issue, so back to the drawing board. I asked about the service campaign number listed above, and they said that they have gone over all of the possible service campaigns related to this issue with engineering (or Tech or Detroit or whatever it is called) and that they are working hand in hand with them, as they have never seen this issue before.

As of tonight (close of business), still waiting on engineering to advise dealership. I don't know if it helped or not, but I also called into GM, as my less than 3 month old car has now been in the shop for 9 days without resolution. Any other recommendations for escalation?
