My wife had her gym bag stolen at the gym which contained her key to the car. The perp apparently went out to the parking lot and walked around till her car opened. They got her car, phone, wallet and a number of other misc items.

Anyway, a long story short I used my Chevy app to see the car history- even though I don't pay for onstar. I could see when the car left and where it was currently. We used the timing (of the car leaving) to identify the perp in the security video.

The cops drove over to the car location and then called us to come over. One thing for another we got the car back minus the key fob and the lug nut key. Any pointers to where I can get either/both?

It is not an emergency but I want to get it done before I forget and then it comes a crisis.

I bought a replacement on eBay. Search the forum for a topic on it. If you have one existing working fob then you can reprogram them and then when you do that the other one that was stolen should stop working — there’s an entire procedure in the manual about it — you would not necessarily have to take it to the dealer so you can at least try that first after you buy the fob online.

You'll need TWO working fobs present to add another one DIY. Without both fobs the Dealer will have to program your new FOB. You can get the new on on Ebay easy.

It is designed this way so that if you loan out your car (and FOB) that person cannot create their own new key for the car. Requiring TWO working FOBS creates a situation where only the owner is likely to have them both.

Unless you have the card that comes with the wheel locks identifying the code or if the dealer has the full wheel lock key set, you're going to have to have someone remove the locks and get a new set.

I bought one on eBay also - $55

I bought it shortly after I bought the car because my '17 owners manual says you must have two functioning Fobs to program a third one, so I didn't want to wait until after we had lost one - Paying the dealer to program one would be a half hour or more labor charge @ $125 per hour or whatever the current going rate is. The procedure in the owners manual worked flawlessly

From my 2017 manual:

Programming with a Recognized Transmitter
A new transmitter can be programmed to the vehicle when there are two recognized transmitters. To program, the vehicle must be off and all of the transmitters, both currently recognized and new, must be in the vehicle.
If you don't have both transmitters you must see a dealer. But you can purchase your spare online instead of from the dealer.

OK thanks guys. They seemed to have a good lead on catching the thieves - I was hoping it would happen quick enough so that I would get some of the stuff back. However, that was Thursday of last week and I see my chances as dwindling. Scumbags...

You also need the physical key cut. Looks like a dealer is the best way to get a new key/fob made. Since there is a physical key in the wild with an associated home address from the wallet, I’d get the locks rekeyed. The dealer should be able to disable the logical proximity key.

Good point. The fact the thief has the wallet may negate any idea of saving a few bucks by doing this yourself.

I though as long as you are not north of the US you did not need 2 FOB's but only ONE to program a new one.?

it has been 6 + years but I seem to remember a page in my pkg with a Bar code that was to be used to cut a replacement key ?

I lost my wheel lock key once. I contacted the maker and they asked me to take several pictures of the wheel locks. They were able to make me a new key.
