I have a 2018 Volt and a Samsung Galaxy S9+. When I first got the car last month I was able to reply to text messages via the preset replies on screen. Lately, when I tap the "reply" button on screen, nothing happens. What changed? :(

Find a spot off the road and stop there. Then reply to the text message. Only then should you resume your driving.

I've never used that feature in my 2017 but I tried it on my previous car just to test it: 2015 Challenger. I found that I could receive texts but not reply if the phone was locked. To solve it, I set up the location based unlock so the phone remained unlock in the presence of the car's bluetooth signal: so while using the phone in the car, the lock screen never appeared. Then I was able to send texts.

Then maybe all the car manufacturers should stop offering this feature.
I agree with you on this. If you can get the text message read to you and then allow a speech to text reply that would work, but forcing the driver to press buttons is definitely not a good idea.
