Ok this is an extreme wishlist but I would like a built in webserver (like a wireless router) That would allow me to monitor the electricity used/ gas used/ miles traveled etc... I would like to be able to see my day to day usage as well as a week and month breakdown. I would also like to be able to enter in my electricity cost and fill up cost to track all expenses.

I would also like to monitor hours on engine. When the next maintenance is due (oil change etc) also I would like a history of all maintenance that was performed over the history of the vehicle.

I'd actually like to extend this:

Why not (as an option) have a wireless router embedded into your vehicle?

You could:
1) As suggested, you could retrieve information from your vehicle
2) Push music right to an embedded hard drive
3) You know how you can configure settings on your router? Why not be able to do the same a la a published 'web page' from your car? Just like your router (bluetooth perhaps?), an admin username/password would be req'd. Why pay a 'tuner' to tweak your car to adjust the car yourself for your driving preferences. Not to digress; but think of this type of option on a car built for the tuner market (ex: Cobalt). Being able to change some settings (all within allowable parameters of course) would usher in a new level of customization previously unavailable.

On a seperate note, with LCD screens getting cheaper and cheaper, couldn't GM design a 'generic' LCD instrument cluster? The design and build-out cost could be shared upon virtually every vehicle built going forward. Each application (vehicle) would get it's own 'theme' or 'skin'. Of course you could combine it with that wireless router (above) and let people personalize their car's display as well. Heck if you can do it on $100 mobile phones, why not a $20k+ vehicle?

A few more items

I posted this on the main article that was linked on the home page.

Fleet Vehicles

Currently IT departments can log into all the printers in our company and check Toner levels etc… It seems like it would be a huge benefit for fleet customers to be able to log in and see which cars need maintenance, mileage, charge levels, etc.. Obviously this isn’t a Volt specific feature, but it would be an added benefit to all fleet vehicles using this tech.

Other items:

I think adding music as posted above would be great. Also the ability to activate my climate control from a web page would be great.

I know many people want to keep the Volt as simple as possible and I understand that. But I think these features would just add to the buzz around the car, it gives people more and more things to talk about. It gives people features that we are seeing more and more, printers, surveillance cameras, heck even homes are starting to be web accessible. This is the next generation of car from GM let's show the world that they need to catch up!
