I've been lurking on here for awhile trying to make my mind up between a Volt and a Bolt as a replacement for our soon-to-be-bought-back VW TDI. Given the timeline of the Bolt we're ready to move ahead w/ a Volt purchase as we'd like to capitalize on the tax benefits for '16....so we've been doing quite a bit of shopping around. I've found that most dealers in our area aren't willing to budge much on pricing and, as a resident of a non-compliance state, we don't get the $1k rebate that our neighbors in MD get (even if I buy in MD). Because of this I've been looking specifically for cars w/ bonus tags but am getting conflicting info from dealers on the use of the tag along with the current 0% for 60 on Volts. Anyone know for sure if it's an either/or proposition? I haven't found anything concrete save for an asterisk on chevy's site mentioning "special financing" but one of the dealers insists that it can be combined...unfortunately the dealer in question doesn't have the color we're leaning towards.

I'd keep the TDI and not fix it. It's an awesome car. I struggled for weeks with trying to make the numbers on a Volt work, but I came to the conclusion that the Volt is overpriced. With the incentive, it's better, but it's not like your getting a bargain. After weeks of looking, I finally gave up and bought a 2017 Golf GTI Autobahn. Much nicer car.

After a couple years of commuting ~45k/yr and being rearended twice keeping it isn't an option given what they're willing to pay for a high-mileage '13 w/ accident history. The numbers for us work very well as my commute has changed substantially and the tax benefits will come in handy this year. We picked up a '17 blue premium last night. We did give up a few things (power seats, sunroof, smaller car) moving from a SEL passat to a premium volt but for its use as a commuter we're happy.

For anyone curious the answer to our original query was 'no' however the dealer we ended up going with discounted the vehicle enough to more than make up for it.

I am in the process of buying a Volt in California. Did the same search for Chevy tag cars. Was told I could not get Chevy tag and 0% MSRP. I compared monthly payment with best deal with 0% and greater discount with 1.99% financing and the greater discount worked out better. FYI, my current best offer on a Volt Premier that qualifies for Chevy tag is $6700 off MSRP. Luckily, the only one on the lot at that deal is Black, which is what I want. But I don't think it is a popular color.
