"The Bolt’s gear system was designed from the ground up with electricity in mind, which allowed implementing an automatic precision shift to change gears without that familiar clunky sensation.' The Bolt EV never changes gears! The shifter is for those who cannot get away of the vestigial shift level. Both Ford (including Lincoln) and GMC (in the 2018 Terrain) are getting away from the level in gas cars by using buttons or a dial. GM must do the same for EVs.

Drove a loaner with a dial not too long ago. Didn't like it.

I like the gear selector in my 2017 Volt, not sure I like the "LOW" designation on the selector. 4 positions would suffice - PRND. All regen could be selected via the steering wheel.

GM may have gotten too cute with their design choice. And one has to wonder if that had any role in the recent "unattended movement" of parked Bolt recently reported by a forum member. I hope not.
