Anybody know what is the red light in the rear bumper ? Beside the turn signal and the back-up lights .
Brake lights , running lights ?
Is it one light? Could be a rear fog. Pics?

The red lights in the bumper of the Bolt EV come on when the lift gate is up and the tail lights are no longer visible from the back

They should be rear markers which are red. Front markers are yellow. Many cars, including my Chevy Equinox, turn them on with the DRL. Federal law mandates them, but there is no limit on how many or where to put them, as long as they face rearward. I added one as the hitch cover.

Most modern cars now use LED markers. I replace all the lights (interior and exterior) in my Equinox with LEDs , which is now 100% LED (including the twin beam headlights), and they will last the life of the Equinox (at least ten more years). I suspect that the Chevy Bolt EV markers are also LEDs.

This is correct. This will allow you to have visible brake lights if you drive with the hatch open (if your carrying long cargo for example).

Here is another example with the Opel Insignia wagon. Here the extra lights are actually inside the hatch area and are only visible with the hatch open.
