I have a suggestion (question) regarding the Volt battery pack. I understand that the proposed battery pack for the Volt can let a driver operate the car for up to 40 miles before the generator engine kicks in. My question or suggestion is, can't this be improved some with current battery technology, or is it not possible due the the weight of the car, expense, etc. I have been researching EVs and have come accross some other vehicles. Two manufacturers (Tesla motors and Phoenix motor cars) say they have vehicles that can produce a driving range from 130 to 220 miles on just battery power. The cars these manufacturers have are all electric cars (no other way to charge the battery pack than plug it in). Of course the leaset expensive one of these cars is $47,000, the most expensive one is the Roadster from Tesla ($109,000).
