Just a quick question - is there a setting somewhere that will allow the heated steering wheel to come on automatically like the seats do when the temp drops below a certain threshold (40 degrees I think)?.

In the manual for my 2017 it says during remote start the heated steering wheel may come on if equipped, but nothing about automatic activation due to outside temperature. It would be great if I could get the car to do this. I did a quick search here but didn't see anything specific, any help would be appreciated! I really like the heated feature for both the seats and steering wheel - I don't know why there isn't an [easily found] option to set them both to be automatically activated together.

Thanks!

I don't think there has been a confirmed way. Mixed reports of people saying it DOES come on for them, and other saying it never does. I don't think mine has ever come on during precondition....

I wish it would precondition at it's max settings, but it only seems to really turn things to the max if I leave the car set to "MAX" heat and full seat heating BEFORE I turn the car off. Then when I precondition it seems nice and toasty. If I forget to and have left it on eco and auto then when I precondition it's not outside ice cold, but doesn't feel like when someone's been having the car running for a whole trip and you just hope in, that wonderful toasty feel...

I'm not aware you can get the steering wheel heat on without manually turning it on.

Also, in a related question, is there a way to have the HVAC default to recirculate rather than outside vent air?

I believe if you push the re-circulate button it cycles between "auto" "out side air" and "re-circulate". If it's manually selected to re-circulate I think it stays there.

The steering wheel takes about 30 seconds to warm up after you press one easy to see control button. The more automatic features the more likely you are in for a difficult search through the owner's manual to learn how to turn them off.

Thanks I know about the selector button, but it seems to always go back to outside air for me which makes it much harder to heat up the car. I'll pay closer attention next time.

This is my take as well. It only takes a couple of seconds to start getting warm and about 30 seconds to get as hot as it gets. Why automate it?
