Another question about the auto-headlights. Again, on our 2016 Rav4 hybrid the switch to turn on the auto-headlight feature defaults to "On". So we have turned it on and never have to change it. On my 2017 Volt, I have to manually turn it on every time I want the auto-headlight feature. Does anyone know if this can be changed to default "On" by a setting I haven't found, or the dealer?

There is a round switch on the lower left side of the dash, the steering wheel hides it. I set mine to AUTO and leave it. Now this is different then the Inteilbeam feature. That's a switch on the stalk on the left of the steering wheel and must be engaged each time you want to use it.

These are two separate features.

Thanks, sorry for the confusion, it IS the Intellibeam feature on the stalk that I want to be able to default to on like my RAV4. So it auto-sense the on-coming traffic and raises or lowers the high beam. On the RAV4 I turned it on and forgot it. On the Volt I have to turn it on everytime I want that feature.

Interesting. On our 2017 if it was on when the car was last used it remains on through turning the car off. Slipstreamed change?

See, here I am not even knowing automatic high-beams were even an option on the Volt :p learn something new every day. If it's just a button to press, what's the trouble with having to press it once per drive? I have a sequence of things I do when I start the car that I don't even realize I do anymore. Plug phone in, hit "Android Auto", sometimes turn on Sport mode, heated seat/wheel...you'll get used to hitting the switch after a while.

On our 2017 it must be enabled each time... I actually prefer that since I find its operation to be erratic at times in certain situations...

For me, I also turn the light switch from Auto to On, even during the day. I think it's safer that way -- driving lights aren't bright enough for others to see during all conditions, and there are no rear lights without having the lights "On". Now, if they would only make this so I could make it the default, I'd be happier.

My auto headlights turn on at a pretty high brightness threshold; I've never needed to turn them on manually. I wonder if there's a setting you can adjust somewhere. I hate having mine on if it's brighter than "overcast-ish" outside because the dashboard dims too much.

Sometimes that's actually less safe. During bright sunlight somebody behind you may not notice the slight change from running lights to brake lights. Leave it on auto, it's ok. The car knows what to do.
