Getting stuck in daily commuter traffic in urban locations may be an influence. Even without carpool lane privileges I find it less stressful not having an engine running when creeping along at 10 mph. Theory: Carpoolers exposed to EV's in their carpools, but waiting for lower prices, know this and are eager to buy when the price is at last accessible. (same reason obsolete Nissan Leafs are flying off the shelves--and will continue to do so with the new Leaf)

Having access to free charging at work also helps bias the decision to buy an electric car. I know someone in the Bay Area who is leasing a Leaf for under $100/month all-in (with, if I remember correctly, 0 signing costs), and in 2 years he has never once charged it at home or paid a penny to charge it. At some point, it just becomes a no-brainer.

Maybe it is just San Diego's used car market, but I see tons of off lease EV's like Leafs not selling on CL and used car lots near me.

I feel like people would want to buy my Volt on the used market, but not willing to pay more than the price of a prius (or less). Maybe it is because there are a lot of these cars around in the market locally. Maybe I'm wrong and the volt will be an easy sale/trade-in.

Dealers near me which includes St Louis still list pre-owned Gen I Volt's for a premium, that's not to say they get that. I'm mystified at that. I've seen several listed for $21K.

Local Nissan dealer sent me one of those spam letters saying they needed my trade. The letter said the trade-in value for my '11 Crystal Red Volt was $4900, but if I act now, they'll give me $7400 (and I'm sure that's against full MSRP on a new vehicle). Guess I'll be driving my Volt quite a while if that's the offer.
