Am I crazy or is there actually 2 different type of tail lights on Gen 1s?

The real life one is being seen at an angle, it has a reflector strip there.
The other looks like a concept photo, which may or may not be on real cars.

Yes, there are different taillights.

The ones that are consistent all the way across (right picture) are the original lights from 2011. The ones with the square patterned reflective patch were introduced in either 2012 or 2013 (I can't remember).

Interesting! Mine is a 2013 and it has the square reflective patch.

This is correct. 2011 did not have the small squares, 2012-2015 do have the small squares.

Then there's the Ampera version:

Those are not Ampera tails, these are Ampera tails, unless the Ampera Tails changed a bit from 2011-2015 (or when it ended)?
What you posted appear to be an Export version of the Volt tails, first I've seen amber inserts in those. It appears the Holden Volt also has solid red tails?

Nope Holden Volt isn't solid red top part is amber
