Does anyone have a 2017 Volt where the ICE (gas engine) is NOT made in Mexico? I've seen posts elsewhere of people asking, where everyone replying has said "mine says Mexico." I've also read reports that in mid-2016 Chevy was supposed to move production from Mexico to Michigan for these, but so far, haven't seen anyone that actually has an ICE that's NOT made in Mexico. I'm not trying to bash Mexico, I'm just simply wondering if anyone has a new 2017 Volt with a Michigan/USA-made ICE rather than the Mexico-made ICE. Perhaps the production move idea got changed or postponed? Thanks!

<sarcasm> Now that Trump is set to be president on the 20th of January, GM may start to find that throwing those engines over the wall will be too tiring and will follow through with their initial plan to manufacture them in the good-ole US of A. (Couldn't resist - lol)

Seriously, I would like to know, too.

Demand is too low.

1. Gas (fuel has been cheaper around elections how many times)
2. Uncertainty, why setup a process that may become moot?
3. Car sales are slow around an election
4. Stock market instability, why insource if funding is going to be unstable for 6+ months
5. New competing product (cough bolt)

Given what has transpired I think we all need to feel lucky we can buy a volt at all.

My worry is that 2018 will never come

I'm not sure, but it's possible that the window sticker might not be updated to reflect the change in the engine's origin until the 2018 model year. It's possible that the only way to tell is by looking at an identification tag on the engine itself. I know the transmission has such a tag that includes a code for its manufacturing origin so I'm guessing the engine might have a similar tag but I don't know.

I thought the VIN had a spot for the engine source. IIRC, my V-6 Ford Taurus SHOs' VINs all had a code that indicated either "Yamaha" or "Japan" as the engine source!

Its been a while since the last post. Does anyone know if the current 2017 Volt's engine is being manufactured in the US. I believe GM stated that 2016 Volt's engine would be manufactured in the US. The 1.5 engine at that time was manufactured in Mexico. Now with President Trump, seems like it would benefit GM to manufacture the 1.5 engine, or perhaps any engine, here in the U.S.
