I think some people have wired into the OnStar module near the mirror? Potentially easier/closer.
Anyone Hardwire a Dash Cam?

I bought a "ITRUE X6D Dual Car Dash Cam Pro" on Amazon. Neat little HD camera, even has a 2nd rear facing (VGA) camera. Anyone hard wired a dash cam into a Gen 2 Volt? I think I will mount the camera just left of the rear view mirror, and I think I can tuck the wire into the headliner to get it over to the A-pillar, there actually a little gap there. I saw a YouTube video where (on different model car and with different dash cam) they just pulled off some of the rubber door molding to run the wire inside and down the A-piller (there may have been an air bag in there somewhere too) to the foot well......but the probably can't be that easy, can it?
Anyway, if anyone put one in please share your experience...

I've always just popped off the a-pillar trim and run the wiring for different things (cameras, radar detectors, etc.) underneath. There's usually an easy way to then feed the wire below the dash from the front corner of the windshield - no need to mess with any rubber trim or anything around the door.
Just ground the negative wire to any good body nut/bolt using a circular wire connection. You can buy a small device at most auto parts stores that will allow you to put two fuses in one fuse slot so the original fuse is still there plus a separate fuse for your new circuit. I would use something that is switched with the car power such as the radio or some other low power fuse.
The important thing is to make sure you use zip ties or something to secure your wiring BEHIND the side curtain airbag which is rolled up inside the pillar. You want to ensure that if the airbag goes off it doesn't propel your wiring into your head or something else equally bad.

I plugged my dashcam (mounted to the left of the rear view mirror) into the dash compartment outlet and routed the wire across the top to the right and down and tucked it into the trim. The only thing visible is a few inches coming out of the dash compartment.

I hardwired my Gen 1 Volt dashcam. There is a youtube video which showed easy instructions. I tapped into power in the overhead panel. Same technique might work on Gen 2.

My Papago GoSafe 200 is hard wired. I ordered this wire kit from Amazon, procrastinated all summer and finally had a local shop install it in about 30 minutes. It's just as posted above, pull the left A-pillar and tuck it between the headliner and windshield.

Thanks for the additional info guys. If I can pop off that A-Pillar cover easily I will probably run the wire myself to the footwell, then if it looks like a hassle just take it somewhere. Well see. I have not even looked under the dash to see whats there yet. The camera did come with both a cigarette adapter and a hard wire cable.

UPDATE: Fuse block looks to be in good location, and looks like in video here using Fuse Slot 37 should would work. Joe, if I use the fuse tap you show on your link above this could be a snap to install. Hopefully getting the wire down is easy.

I'm very curious as to this as well. Since I own a 2017 Premium, I'm going to attempt to tap off the power for the Lane Keep Assist camera - mainly since the cover comes off so easily and that's what I'm mounting the dash cam on anyway. (I might tap off the power for the auto-dimming mirror - not sure just yet)
My dealer's parts dept gave me pinouts for the connectors - now it's just a matter of testing, and tapping in to it.

Just an update guys: I have not gotten around to hardwiring my dash camera yet, with some cold weather, the holidays and a death in the family I just not got to it yet. But in looking around for info on how to take the A-pillar cover off I did find this video.
He used the USB port on the car, but it's helpful to see what's behind the A-pillar cover.

Here's a good reason to have one.... (taken on the way home last month)
I tuck my wire in the gap between the windshield and the A-pillar, then, turn at the bottom, and hide inside the glovebox. the wire is nearly invisible. the only segment that is visible is the bottom of A-pillar.
Has anyone installed a DOD LS460W or LS470W camera up on the windshield behind the mirror? I'm curious if it will fit there.
