So what if the ICE comes on and helps warm up the cabin? Its chump change in gas. I would really hesitate to go changing sensors and risk screwing something up. The Ice needs to run occasionally anyway why not just go with the flow....
I can offer a sure-fire absolutely certain method for minimizing the amount of time the engine runs due to winter, without trying to force the car to operate any way other than the way it was designed. Move to Arizona. It really works.
I love the summers here. And 120F is not a problem at all for the Volt. The A/C does a remarkably great job at keeping me cool.
