I know there is a 31 page thread on the update. However, since my car was build in Feb 2017 and the dealer states all updates, etc have been installed, I'm wondering if this is a separate issue, or user error.

When I attempt to run AA and get to the menu I get the message to hook up a phone through the USB port. However, I've tried hooking up my Samsung S7 Edge and my son's S8 and nothing happens....still get the message to hook up a phone, even though I am hooked up.

Any ideas? Thanks

Another suggestion is that your phone's USB settings may be set to charge only. You need to use the notification dropdown and set it to media or MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). I believe, since android 6 marshmallow, the default connection type for USB is charge only. If you want it to go to MTP as default, you need to enable Developer Options (google on how to do this), and change the default connection type to MTP. Of course, Samsung may decide to override this in their own software, but check first to see if this is the issue.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try some of these suggestions when I go back to my car after work. I have a different cable to try and thanks cki- I have turned on the developer options so I'll see if that works.

Got it to work last night. I went through the MTP and found that my phone was already set up to do this so no changes needed. It actually was the simple fix that worked.......using a different cable! Thanks again everyone.

Agreed. The cable that come with my new S8 appears to be a charge only cable. I have found it doesn't talk to my computer through the USB port either. Replaced it with a Charge/Sync cable. Now it works fine.

Companies that manufacture charge-only USB cables - and especially those that deliver them with their smart phones - should be condemned to use them and nothing else for all eternity.
