42% Of Brits Are Confused – Think Electric Cars Can’t Go In A Car Wash

Wow, what a snappy dresser!

  • 47% of people think that petrol or diesel cars accelerate faster than pure electric
  • 25% think EVs are more expensive to maintain
  • 42% of Brits aren’t sure if you can put a pure electric car through a car wash
  • 52% of Brits saying they wouldn’t be able to describe what an EV is to someone else

  1. Myth: Pure electric cars are slow.
  2. Myth: They’re too expensive.
  3. Myth: There aren’t enough public charge points.
  4. Myth: There are only a few of models to choose from.
  5. Myth: Pure electric cars are a technology for the future!

My answers to the myths - you have your own:

1. Sometimes but mostly electric cars are not slower than ICE.
2. Yes for some the price point is still too high. Don't start with the tax incentives - compare straight.
3. For people in condos/apartments where they're most needed that's absolutely true.
4. On my radar there are less than a few - don't know what the Brits have on theirs.
5. The technology we really need isn't here yet, but what I have now works fine.

The car wash thing is funny, even if the Inside EVs title takes the real story too far.

I'm taking my Volt to New Hampshire this weekend. I'm going to have my mom drive it after I recharge from the 2,000 mile road trip - she's convinced EVs are slow.

lagagnon: If electric rates in the UK are 3 times the BC rate, that still makes it WAY, WAY cheaper than Petrol!
What is the cost of Petrol over there? CAD$5 a liter or is it more?

I am fortunate to have $0.08196 KwH electricity here in Manitoba. About $1.68 for a full charge of the battery. + tax of course.

Carrying around Power Service white or silver for fill-ups, changing fuel filters every 15,000 miles and carrying a spare in case I got a tank of rot gut, carrying gloves to handle the diesel nozzle, etc.. Ah, the good old days.
