2G cell modems?

Not sure how far this goes (if other EVs are impacted), but early LEAF and Ford Energi models used 2G modem technology for communication (via the remote apps). Both manufacturers use AT&T's network. Nissan is charging LEAF owners to fix this, and while Ford isn't charging (we have either 5 years from warranty start date or July 1, 2017), on the Fusion Energi they need to order replacement trim parts for so called "one way" trim, which needs to come out to replace the modem, but needs to be replaced with new trim.

I'm assuming the Volt's modem is using the 3G cell network?

If I remember right the cutoff/switchover was early 2015 and from then to now Volts are 4G LTE communications.
Was GEN1 pre-2015 3g?
If you Volt does not have 4G LTE with Wifi, it uses the Verizon network to communicate, and will not be impacted by AT&T's removal of the 2G network.

If your Volt has 4G LTE with Wifi, it is using AT&T's network, but will still not be impacted by the removal of their 2G network.

Yup. Gen1 are CDMA-based.
That said... Our beloved Gen1 CDMA radios are equivalent to a "2G" service
Verizon said in 2012 they set their End-Of-Life target as 2021.

But since spectrum has become more valuable I expect/predict they will choose to accelerate that timeline.
YMMV. :)
Yes, 2011-2014 Volts are Verizon 2G CDMA. Verizon plans for 2G "sunset" (shutdown), Dec 31, 2019.

We have a 2015 C-Max-E. Ford recently sent us a free offer to upgrade the cellular radio.

CDMA-2000 is 3G

Doubt if GM will do a free offer. So what are our options as the time is getting closer? I am searching threads to see if this has been discussed with a good solution.
