Not sure how far this goes (if other EVs are impacted), but early LEAF and Ford Energi models used 2G modem technology for communication (via the remote apps). Both manufacturers use AT&T's network. Nissan is charging LEAF owners to fix this, and while Ford isn't charging (we have either 5 years from warranty start date or July 1, 2017), on the Fusion Energi they need to order replacement trim parts for so called "one way" trim, which needs to come out to replace the modem, but needs to be replaced with new trim.
I'm assuming the Volt's modem is using the 3G cell network?
