Sounds like the Volt might not make next year, but still under consideration.

I was wondering if this might happen, the Volt goes from 2 ZEV credits down to 1 credit for 2018, and they seem to have to discount it significantly to get it to sell in the small volumes it does.

My opinion is it will be incredibly bad PR for GM to kill the Volt, even if it doesn't sell well. Drag it along until they release their Model 3 competitor. Killing the Volt without having an equivalent car to replace it with would make me get a Tesla. If they had a Voltec CUV I might not care.

Can we edit title to say Gen 3 instead of 2018, sounds like cancellation would be 2020

If you notice, I already have a comment in my post to change title to Gen 3 (from 2018), I can't seem to edit it. Either way, Volt is on the chopping block with an uncertain future.

I agree, nothing certain and my guess Voltec continues on, but they have to be careful how they announce this, I would have other models out first, like a CUV and Malibu sedan or whatever they happen to be. They risk very bad PR.

Thanks for that nicely written piece, I am imagining how electrek will spin this, probably something how about how evil GM is and how they are just selling them for ZEV credits/compliance, and GM wants all EVs to fail, etc :)
