doesn't surprise me. In general, car sales are down and SUV and truck sales are up. If gas prices remain low, it will stay that way.
On top of that, the Volt is a bit of an oddity. It's got the interior size (and classification) of a compact car, without the compact price. The reason people buy cars like the Corolla, Civic and Cruze is because they're cheap. Take away the lower price, and you lose the vast majority of the market.
Yes, everyone here knows that the long term cost is at least competitive, but the average American consumer has no concept of future cost. Plus many can't afford to finance the higher price.
If GM would follow Volvos lead (obviously not electrifying the entire line) and release a number of plug-in vehicles, I would be interested.
I just purchased a Nissan Pathfinder to replace my wife's Scion. With a child on the way and large dog, a compact car doesn't cut it.
