Hello all,

I bought a new 2019 Volt last year and for the most part have been very happy with it. For the last month or so though, I have been having an issue with it. I chose not to continue the Onstar and Sirius services. As neat as they are, I bought the Volt for the car itself, not for all the connectivity it offers. Once the services ended my radio stopped working. Well I should say it works some times for a little while and then goes out. I'm thinking that even though I didn't continue the Onstar service they still stay connected to the car to log whatever data they want to, and that when the radio does work is when they're logged on collecting data. It didn't dawn on me that with this newer technology the radio probably doesn't work without the Onstar service. Does anyone know if that is the case? If it is, I'm not very happy at all about that. I don't need or want a constant nanny watching and recording everything about MY car, and anything that is said inside it.

Your concerns are mtsplaced. I don't have OnStar, my radio works fine. Take it to the dealer for warranty repair.

My FM radio started to become absolutely terrible last year - ended up being water inside the shark fin up top. No relation to OnStar/Sirius.

My car didn't have 1000 miles on it when the radio started acting up and like I said, it didn't start giving me problems until I cancelled the Onstar and Sirius services. The day the services ended, the day it started acting up. Coincidence? Maybe, but that's awful fishy.

My 2017 premier required the antenna to be replaced. Seemed like a common issue for the "older" ones.

FM went out first. Then after months of neglecting it, Sirius/xm stopped working, and shortly after I couldn't connect through the MyChevrolet app.

Was replaced under warranty. FM reception is weakening again after 1.5 years since replacement.

my 2017 premier had the shark fin antenna replaced also. poor Sirius XM reception though. The dealer can hook up a test antenna to your car and determine if you have antenna issues. Get it looked at before your warranty runs out.

Another thing to consider... if you have any non-OEM equipment installed in your car.

I rarely use FM, but on the occasion I did, it noticed it was almost unusable. However the problem turned out not to be any fault of the car, but it was the 12v to 5v power supply I was using to power my dashcam! I tried 3 different ones before I found one that didn't completely obliterate the car's FM reception. In the end some random $5 phone charger from the local convenience store performed better than the "name brand" more expensive ones from Amazon.

My FM radio does not work. The AM works fine, but AM is absolutely hideous. Sirius works loud and clear, but I don't want Sirius. I want an FM radio. I just had a factory recall software update (they said), and one station worked w/ a lot of static for a minute, now no more FM radio. To just look at it at a dealer costs $300, doesn't mean they can repair it.
