Just curious where you got this information. From the service manual? The axle nut is a 1-time use part, so you cannot just re-torque it.

Well, my creaking in my Gen 2 turned out to be an issue with the axle that had to be replaced. My creaking occurred usually either slowing down to a stop or accelerating from a dead stop. Mine was covered under the b2b warranty at about 20k miles.
There is a service bulletin on the issue of the stress of the torque being applied to the axle that causes either wear on the axle or loosening of the axle nuts that have to be tightened.
I think this is endemic to the Volt because of the regeneration stresses placed on the axles and associated parts.
If you do a search in the forum for the service bulletin relating to the axle or axle nuts you should be able to find it; maybe that will help.

HI @marcusm,
Would you be able to give me the work order from the dealer? I am getting a creak on my driver side front and the dealer says it is the suspension control module needs to get used to the new left strut that was installed. They don't want to do anything and see if the module calibrates to the new strut. The noise is driving me bonkers. My car has 37,000 miles on it. Would greatly appreciate any help you can provide.
I have the same exact issue...they have replace the axle and nuts and washers and the noise is still there... It almost sounds like the creak is coming from the driver side floorboard or firewall. So was this ever solved because my creaking is super bad and audible. It is like the whole front end creaks as the gas is pressed and when you brake. Then when you go again you can hear it. But then goes away until you brake or put your foot on the accelerator. I have searched the forums and I am seeing clicking sounds but it's not even clicking. It's definitely a creeeeeeaaak. Almost like a creaking door sound lol I have seen a post where one person took it to a dealership and was told "no big deal."

Do the test in post #9.I have the creaking/clunking in front left on acceleration. I thought I had my axle replaced when the sound was much less pronounced, but it has grown since. I am getting the work report to be sure. I suppose it could be a CV joint or ball joint issue.
I am wondering if this clunking could be an engine mount issue. I had major work done on my 2013 Volt for transmission (Circular saw noise on deceleration) issues and dealer service dept. messed up re-installing engine and forgot to install an engine mount bushing. This led to months of back and forth between me and dealership. The car was in really bad shape with the engine coupled to the frame. The dealer kept insisting this was normal noise/handling. They finally admitted to messing up the reinstalltion. I wonder if this damaged the car. With the engine properly mounted with the bushing the car was back in shape. But years later this clunking sound on accel/deccel started.
