Thanks CeeW, I guess we're the only two lucky people (that monitor this site) to have this happen. Maybe that is an indication that it's rare. I was just getting to the point of not wondering if the car was going to perform properly each time I hit the start button. Now I'm back to thinking about it every day. At least we weren't stranded. Regards, Chris
This is definitely not rare

In my case the car continued to drive with intermittent battery problems for a while, then finally refused to do anything anymore. Once the problem came to light we did not take it on any long trips for fear of being stranded, and we were lucky that when it failed the final time it was in our driveway.

Hello everybody! We decided to look into this problem and solve it. There are already workshops where you are offered repairs within three hours of your module and a one-year warranty.
We have already connected the module to mdi gm gds2, sps techline sees the module and fills in the firmware. It's all on the table without battery and car!
Now we have one problem and I'm asking for help— we need data sheet and application note on the L9367 chip. Manufacturer ST, LG development. We will be very grateful for your help.

You probably already found this: https://www.edn.com/teardown-high-voltage-li-ion-battery-stack-management-the-drive-for-safe-power/

No real info though compared to what you are looking for...

Seems this is now a class action lawsuit. I was just told months to get a replacement part and several others on internet saying the same thing. no offer of a replacement car.

reports lately are that Gen 2 owners needing a BECM replacement are having them come in within a month. The class action? That will drag out for years.

BECM failure on a 2018 volt, 72K miles just this week. Check engine light, no movement, shift to park error all at once. Part is on backorder, no date at all of when it could be done. My dealer got me a rental at Enterprise at no cost, and they admit it may take a few months to get it all sorted out. Counting the clock on this car for a trade in..

The short version of the Voltec warranty is 8 years.
Wait, there's a short version and a long version? Who gets which version?

I know there are short and long emissions control warranties that depend on which state the car was purchased in. But I thought the Voltec warranty was 8/100,000 for everyone.

It's ... complicated. Basically you're right, except for the part about state-to-state differences not applying to Voltec warranties. Fairly illustrative discussion here: About That CARB Voltec Warranty

So I guess it all depends on whether the BECM is considered an emissions control component. If yes, and if you bought the car in a CARB state, you get more than 8/100. But so far I haven't seen any reports of people whose Volts match those two criteria getting their BECM replaced and telling us how much they paid.

I hit this issue about a week and a half ago. Managed to drive home but then had to get it towed to the dealer (which I passed on the way home!). Anyway, I've been quoted $1500. I would argue for the warranty, but I just passed 101,000 miles. Has anyone had any luck arguing that this would have started before the part actually failed, given all the problems posted here? Or some such? Or they might be able to avoid a lawsuit if they put it under the warranty?
