Hello. Im new to the forum and was a happy volt owner for a month untill today. Hopefully someone can give me advice. I usually dont run my battery way down as i only drive 35 miles a day and so have about 25 miles left when i get home. I recharge overnight using the Level one charger that comes with the car. Recently i had to drive extra and ran my battery down to 5 miles and then switched over to hold mode. Anyway when i got home i put the EVSE on it as usual and it only charged a few minutes then quit flashing green The LED in the middle of the dash is a solid yellow and the EVSE light is still green. Not red. On the dash board display it says battery will not charge. I tried multiple outlets in my house and garage but all the same. Will only charge a few minutes then shuts quits charging. Then i decided to start the car and i got the propulsion power reduced message and the check engine light is on. I have an older obd 2 scanner and it reads code p1e00. I realize my scanner may be too old for this car. The battery range is 8 miles. So what does anyone think?? Is it a charger problem or something worse? Thanks for any advice.

Excuse me . I realize the charger is in the car and the EVSE is the cable running from the ac outlet to the cars charging port. I mean do you think the EVSE is bad or for some reason the car is not accepting a charge.

Check your coolant levels. If it's low enough or even a bit to cause the sensor to show low, the car will protect you and itself if it things things have a chance of overheating. The fact she is refusing to charge seems to point on that direction. Keep us posted.

I just noticed that the HV battery coolant level was only about a quarter full. I added coolant to the half way mark which i assume is normal. It still doesnt seem to want to charge for long. Just a few mins then all flashing stops and it says: ::vehicle not able to charge. Would it help to drive the car to get the coolant circulating?? Also I can clear the codes with my older scanner and shut off the check engine light. But it comes back on again. Wonder if i have a coolant leak? Thanks for the replies.

Yes absolutely, there maybe bubbles now in the system that will also trip an error. Drive her around in Hold mode for awhile. Recommend a good 20 minutes to get things nice and warm. Then drive home on EV and then when you get home, give her a charge. It would also help to clear any error codes stored. A basic Bluetooth scanner and the Torque app to clear the DTCs would be perfect.

Well i just got back from a short drive. I started out with 10 miles on battery reserve and switched to hold mode. Pulled out of my drive and headed down the side street. Only going about 35 slow enough it was on battery power only everything looked good at first but then the 10 miles started dropping real fast and soon it was 0 miles then the ICE kicked in and the reduced propulsion message came on and the engine reved up. I was only a couple miles from home so i turned around and went back. The engine was revving and didnt have much power and i wasnt about to take it on the highway. Funny thing . When i shut car off the 10 miles reappered.

Do you have a CEL on now? If so, check for a blown fuse under the hood. You may also have a faulty EGR. But can't understand why it would force the engine on with 10 miles left... Hmmm... If you had OnStar, you could ask for a remote diagnosis. Anyway, check your coolant again, you may have a leak somewhere again or it's ran low. At any rate, if it's battery or HV system related, you still have plenty of warranty left. Take her to the dealer to get looked at. Preferably one that has a Volt or Bolt Technician.

yes Im gonna call my dealer tomorrow i think. I just bought it from them and they sell lots of volts and bolts. They told me they have volt trained techs so we will see. Thanks for all your help so far. Oh i may not have been clear. I started with 10 miles but after only driving a couple blocks the ten miles dropped to zero miles real quick and then the ICE came on. Something weird is going on but then i have never owned a volt before. Im scared to drive this thing to the auto parts store. Think I will just take it to the dealer.

YES. I did notice when driving back that all green bars were lit up indicating a fully charged battery. Then went back to 2 bars and 10 miles range after i shut car off.

Definitely take the dealer either way. Especially as you bought her used, there is usually a 30-90 day bumper to bumper warranty, and if not, the HV battery system is covered by warranty as well. Hey, it's made by human hands and nothing is perfect. But best to get her given a once over by the folks that know best, especially as have Volt and Bolt Specialists. Report back and let us know!

Yes after looking up BECM failures in this forum it looks like a very common failure on this car. And other peoples symptoms match mine so I think were on the right track. Hopefully the dealer can get the part. My only other question. Should i take a chance and drive it to the dealer or get it towed.?? Its 20 miles away. No interstate. Thanks again for all your help fellas. Im calling the dealer in a few minutes..

Overall you should be fine. Even if she peters out on you, GM has tow service and given warranty claim, you should get reimbursed. But that is dealers discretion of course. I would say given your recency of purchase, they will. They want you to be a loyal customer.

Also note that the tow service should be in your owners manual or on your driver's door frame.

Oh geez Thanks for the good news ?? LOL. I believe your right after reading all the other posts about BECM symptoms. My car is doing exactly the same things. It goes in the shop tomorrow so we will see what they say about wait times. Thanks for your input and information. Not so happy with my volt purchase right now.
