Anyone having issues when their car is in ICE mode. Engine fells like it has a misfire and shakes. No check engine light. Also when driving in ICE mode the car seems to hesitate and surge constantly when trying to accelerate. There is no check engine light on. I have taken to the dealer and they have performed the update. Still not fixed. I have taken it back to the dealer and they have def duplicated the issue and can feel the hesitation and surging however they don't have another 16 or 17 volt to compare it too in order to determine if it is normal or not. The surging is very pernounced over 60 mph and either cruising or trying to accel. Anyone else have these issues or had it fixed?

I had a similar problem with my 2015 Volt.

Obviously, there are scant similarities between the two drive trains. However, what I found interesting was when they were about to pull the tranny out of my vehicle they discovered that it was almost 6 quarts low on fluid. Apparently there is not a tranny fluid sensor or dip stick to determine volume, as it is a sealed system.

The previous owner had the vehicle serviced for some sort of tranny fluid hose that ruptured and the service failed to check fluid level.

Once they added the fluid to the necessary level the car has been running as expected.

believe the first software update was to take care of chuggling
Got it. Just found the tread on 17 not smooth on gas. Seems to be a common problem with no repair avail.

I'm not sure how common it is (certainly not isolated).

The issue also seems to be variable. In my case, I only have the chuggle for less than a minute under the following conditions: I engage a cold ICE via Hold mode while already traveling at highway speeds. If the ICE is warmed up, I don't get a chuggle. If I engage the ICE in town, no chuggle.

Others seem to get it much more frequently and it lasts longer.

The software update helps some, but not all owners.

Schro and others, I think it's helpful to include the build date of your 2017 Volt. Also, keep in mind that the 2017 Volt seems that it will be "extended" production as it was badged 2017 early in 2016 and might not change through Fall of 2017, so an 18+/- month run of 2017s... I haven't noticed this issue, at least not yet, on my 8/16 build date Volt.

I wonder how much of this might be related to driver perception. Many folks driving their new gen 1 volts were immediately shocked by not hearing the ICE rev when they stepped on the accelerator in CS mode. Their first instinct was that the ICE was not responding to their request. Which is true, the ICE is not connected to the accelerator pedal.

For many, the electric drive is so smooth and with no ICE varoom sounds as clues, they can't tell if the car is accelerating or not.

I had this issue pretty significantly. I now have several thousand miles on the gas engine. I can tell you that in my car, it has all but disappeared. My guess is a combination of transmission learning and various clutches wearing in. The car still has just a bit of engine roughness on startup. My guess is that GM has it tuned to the absolute edge of startup enrichment. Otherwise, the car would chew through quite a bit of gas in the first couple minutes. So even though the dealer and GM basically told me that's how it was and I walked away sad, the car sorted itself and I absolutely love it now without reservation. So have hope! I just did 2223 miles on my honeymoon and averaged 53.2 mpg getting to charge about 50% of days. Lots of 75MPH driving in that too!

I have had the same experience. Chuggle was a definite problem at first. Now it's all but gone. I had the chuggle SW update but that didn't seem to have any effect. Rather, I have to agree it seems more like the clutches had to burnish in, just as Splitting conjectures. Maybe also some stickiness due to newness on mechanical control rods, etc. Anyway, give it a couple thousand miles and see if it improves.

My ELR's engine was a little rough at first. Although, I wouldn't call it a misfire. After the first oil change, everything smoothed out.

My car had been sitting on the lot for over a year. Build date 1/2014. Purchase date 2/7/2015.

Mine is in right now for rough warm-up where it felt like an old carbureted engine with the choke on. Also they are checking the radio, CarPlay disconnects on it's own with multiple phones and cables (although they still think it is the cable even though it disconnects the video first while the audio plays for a little bit, even with loss of Bluetooth)
