Took delivery of a 2017 Volt Premier and the Shift Knob illumination on top of the knob was emitting a "BLUE" color light. However, now I am not seeing any light at all. Wondering if the illumination light is not working or have I changed a setting to turn it OFF without knowing what I have done. I've adjusted the Instrument Panel Illumination Control knob, with no luck on the once seen BLUE LIGHT on top of the SHIFT KNOB...

No Luck with the included manuals and Chevy Electric Customer Support Team 800 number (they are to get back to me if they find an answer)...

Thoughts?:confused::confused:

There is no light on or in the shifter knob. My best explanation is that perhaps in some lighting conditions it may pick up a reflection. The imagination is a powerful thing... :)

2017 Premier owner here. I can confirm that there is no built-in light but under some conditions the blue insert in the top of shift lever appears to glow like a crystal.

Also, if you place the crystal on the Staff of Ra and put the staff in a certain place, at a certain time of day, the sun makes a beam that comes down on the floor and gives you the exact location of the Well of the Souls where the Ark of the Covenant is kept.

OK... I hear the group, but the wife even verified she saw the light (fiber optic??) too... I guess this makes us both south of the border, so to speak... HA!!!!

I even took a flash light and you can see what I call fiber optic inlayed in the top of the shifter knob... Maybe, I got an experimental VOLT... HA!!!

I just hate, knowing what I saw and now it does not light up... O'well we'll see what the GM people have to say, if they ever get back with me....

LOL!

@ Greg, there is no light there but it would have been a cool thing. I've had some days where the light hits it just right that it does sparkle a little more brilliantly.

Many have hoped for an add-on shifter knobs that match the color of their volt but that has never materialized. I don't have that problem because I have a blue G2 2016. It's been a great car and trouble free since Oct. of 2015.

Congrats and enjoy.

As others have said... There's no light. Sorry.

So no more cool blue LED in the overhead console that illuminates the shifter area? That's a worse omission than Homelink. Bad, bad GM. Omitting that 25 cent LED must be saving them millions.

Not to worry. The overhead "mood" light is still present in the Gen 2.

I am not sure of this, but I read something to do with the console when the option package for the floor lighting was added.

Any of you guys that put that in have any thoughts here? I don't have this option and my shifter does not light up.

On the other hand, if it is a fault in the console, my understanding to access it involves removing the carpet, seats and console just to see what you have under there.

If it did have lights, fiber optics sound a likely choice but since I have not seen it, I can't say.
Good luck.

Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?

That is a brilliant answer!

I have a 2017 Premier with the optional lighting package and the shift knob definitely doesn't light up.

What if the designers of the Volt are pawning us and the shift lever insert really does light up based on specific conditions:

Bob Lutz's B-Day
Each time GM registers another new Volt sale
Geofencing, so you know when another Volt is nearby

Where did this quote relate to.....

" Ducts, Why again, Ducts "

Yes, when the moon aligns with mars and a shadow is cast upon the great seas of Earth, The lands are at peace as technology marches on......... the blue gem alights with lumins. Not many, but some.
