The built in nav system has started to display pop up traffic alerts today, I've never seen that before. I don't use the built in system, I use Android Auto. Has there been an OnStar OTA in the last couple of days that added/turned on this feature?

Do you have Sirius/XM service? I was under the impression traffic alerts were included with that. Otherwise unsure. I do know a couple weeks ago I was in Phoenix and traffic info was showing on my nav ('13), which I've never seen otherwise but appeared to be limited only to the Phoenix area as it didn't show anything for the Vegas area or the drive back to CA.

SiriusXM was running one of their free previews again, so every inactive radio woke up, and that's where the traffic data comes from. I think today was the last day for the free preview.

I suspected that may be the case. I was showing traffic and actually turned the radio to XM and just got the preview channel thats always there. I was hoping I could hear the channels. Perhaps the audio portion of the system needed more time to fully activate. When my traffic was working for Phoenix, it was the day before mothers day, so a couple weeks back. Not sure if that helps narrow a timeline or reason for the traffic feature.

I do have SiriusXM, I've had it since 2005, I've never seen this before. This seems more like an OnStar thing than a Sirius thing.

If you weren't paying for XM before and suddenly started getting the alerts that was because XM just had offered 2 weeks of free service that ended on the 29th.

I have XM but only for music, but I started getting traffic alerts over this period. That comes from their Traffic and Weather Serivce that is extra cost. It actually helped me out when we where on the way to the airport to pick up our kids and grandkids. We had two accidents and debris from an overpass snarling traffic, but at least I could see what, where and how long the delay was. It was nice but I still won't pay for it. I'm cheap.

We're in a free XMradio promotional period. I see the traffic information show up twice a year during these periods.
Yup, this. I've been getting the alerts as well as being able to listen to XM stations.

Mine's been doing it all month. I've kind of wondering if it's a poorly-announced XM promotion. And it's still functional this morning, so "two weeks" sure isn't the case.

Usually, XM sends me a notice that their having a promotion, but they didn't do it this time. I found out when I started getting weather alerts.
