Anyone know what this fan/whine noise is? I heard it this morning (you can hear it from inside the car) and I don't believe it was there before.

Conditions:
  • 2017 Volt, 21000 miles
  • Outside temp: 68F, humidity: 97%
  • Climate controls OFF
  • Already pulled the fuse for the "fake" fan (pedestrian) noise so I know it isn't the pedestrian warning
  • Car was fully charged (completed charging about 10 hours prior and was still plugged in), then I...
  • Unplugged and drove 1 mile to bus stop and heard it while sitting, waiting for my kid's bus
  • Drove the mile home and made the above video clip

I've driven my son to the bus stop many times and sat waiting for the bus. This is the first time I've noticed this noise: we often sit there with the HVAC off as it is a nice temperature outside in the morning. Only difference I can think of is: it was a foggy morning with high humidity. But with HVAC off, I don't see how it would be running the AC to keep humidity out of the car?

Thanks for any insight,
Mike

It was probably the HVAC running. The AC will run anytime it is needed if you have the Window Defogger set to Automatic.

or a Battery Thermal Management System pump running to move coolant around, or ... lot of things. The Volt's a very active little thing even when just sitting there. Mine makes a quiet "titick" relay sound when the car notices my fob is nearby. It usually happens within about ten seconds of getting near the car, and I don't even have to touch it to have it happen.

Yeah, I figured it was one of those humdingers. Just interested in what it is because it seems to be new. I turned off auto defog in the options and it didn't make any difference so I don't think it's HVAC. It's possible I just never heard it before: been driving with HVAC off more and you can't hear it with the HVAC on (that drowns it out). So maybe it was always there.
