On two occasions in the last week the display has gone dead or almost dead. The first time it happened the backup cameras worked but otherwise the display was blank. Yesterday the display was completely dark. Turning the car off and opening the door wasn't sufficient to make the display come back but getting out of the car for a while and coming back was. On both occasions when I got out of the car I also plugged it in, I don't know if that had anything to do with the recovery or if it was just letting sufficient time go by so that the processor was truly powered down.

The first incident happened the day before I was scheduled to take my car into the dealer for a set of recall updates, while it was there they updated the firmware on the infotainment unit as well so the two incidents happened on different firmware versions (at least I think they are different versions, they definitely reflashed the firmware because I had to reset all of my radio presets).

Has anyone else experienced this?

It's a 2017. XM radio updates don't cause the screen to go blank, all they do is cause the channels to go away. Last night I had a completely dark screen, the radio played fine and responded to channel changes from the steering wheel.

Might be worth taking it for service to see if any updates or recalls are available. When I picked up my 2017 two months ago, they did two recalls before I could take delivery. One of them was a reprogram to fix "no start or loss of propulsion". You never know... until you check.

I did all of those recalls last week. When I had it in I had them update the unit with the latest firmware. The first crash happened the day before I took the car to the dealer, the second one happened yesterday.

When I had issues with my Infotainment system ('17 Premier) - symptoms were blank/warm display not responding to touch but radio worked via steering controls. In this scenario, the radio would stay on even when the car was off and if I didn't make a point to shut the radio off via power button, it would just continue to play all night.

Second unrelated issue was touch working but no backlight on the display. In this case, everything worked fine but I couldn't see anything on the display for a few minutes. Seemed to happen when the cabin was very warm in the summer.

I was able to resolve by pulling the three fuses related to the radio. I believe they were radio, display, and infotainment and then replacing them. I have not had a problem since.

2017 Volt Premier

Got in the car this morning and the infotainment display would not come on. No audio either. I pulled the fuses mentioned above and replaced one at a time but not all out at the same time. Didn't help. If I turn the car off by holding down the power button for several seconds and then turn it back on I get a Chevy Volt MyLink splash screen that then goes away. Still black after that.

Do you have a USB cable or USB device plugged into the center console, if so unplug the device and try again.
