So I took my 2017 Volt in for an oil change, tire rotation, recall notices and a check engine light. The engine code was something to do with the evaporative system. I tried a new gas cap without any luck, so decided to have the dealer look into it. Well, it turns out that I also have a transaxle leak. So the parts were ordered for that. Now they're saying I have a evaporative tube that is disconnected and it requires pulling the engine to fix it. Good grief! I thought I was taking my car in for routine maintenance more than anything else, but this has turned into a 9-day ordeal, and they are saying a few more days before they're done. In the mean time I'm driving a brand new loaner car, a Cruze. It's a really cheap car compared to the Volt. I want my Volt back!

The evap line that they are replacing is part of the recall. If the line rubs and causes a hole/leak then the line must be replaced. The part does require major work, not a easy line to replace and is very rare that this does happen. The recall is to add a protective sleeve to keep the line from rubbing, they got to your car too late. They could have just ordered the part and have you bring the car back when it came in, would not have harmed the car.

As someone who had this recall done, I can attest to the time involved. From what I was told, it is a 12-hour job (imagine having to pay labor on that one :) ). They had my car for about 7 days while they ordered/waited for the part to come in. Once they received the part, it took two days to do the actual repair.

Any other items found (e.g. transaxle leak, etc...) will add to the repair time.

I also had the same situation, the evap line had to be replaced (didn’t have a hole in it, but was close and would have trigger a CEL if it went another week or two) and it is 12 or 13 hours in labor as the engine does need to be removed. I didn’t have any other problems so I was able to get my car back within a few days. They do put the sleeve on to protect it going forward. My other Volt didn’t show any wear on the evap line so all that was needed was the protective sleeve, got that car back within a few hours. All in all, not too bad and glad I answered the recall letter timely (there were a few recalls including reprogramming a module).

I also was waiting for parts for that recall. The parts just came in yesterday, I'll go in today. I hope they don't have to pull my engine.

I had it done yesterday. The service guy said my evap line had no mark on it. He said they installed protective bumpers, whatever those are. I guess I'm up to date!

I have same problem. 2014 Volt. They want almost $3000 to fix it! Does anyone have the recall number?

TSB #14522 is an emissions non compliance recall that they replace canister with a higher capacity one and a new vent hose.

#14522: Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles - Insufficient Evaporative Emission Canister Capacity for Vapor Generation - (Apr 6, 2015) Subject: 14522 – Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles – Insufficient Evaporative Emission Canister Capacity for Vapor Generation

This bulletin provides a service procedure to install an evaporative emissions canister and onboard refueling vapor recovery (ORVR) vent line on certain 2014-2015 model year Cadillac ELR and 2011-2015 Chevrolet Volt vehicles.

This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer for any type of service during Applicable New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage periods, including Voltec Component Limited Warranty.
