2017 Display Black Out

Took delivery of my black 2017 Volt LT at the end of June, 2016. Car has close to 5000 km on the odometer and am extremely pleased with the performance so far. Have had one serious problem though. On 3 separate occasions the entire display (speedometer and information display screen) have blacked out briefly (for several minutes one time and for several seconds the other two) only to return intact. Have taken to my dealer for analysis to no avail. The computer scan showed no problem and they had no remedy or opinion as to the cause. Has anyone else had this experience and if so what is the cause and solution?

In the G2 Volt forum there have been a few threads similar to your experience.

I've had my G2 volt about a year. I had several freezes in the first few months of ownership. It was fixed by walking away from the vehicle with your key fob a distance maybe 100ft or more for some time 10 minutes plus and the screen seemed to reset. This walk away strategy worked for a number of volt owners while others prefered to pull infotainment fuses.

In march, my dealer tried to do the Android Auto update and messed up by having wrong type of usb flash drive. As a result, they corrupted the HMI and needed to replace it. After i had my HMI module replaced, I haven't had any freezes. It has been rock solid. Maybe coincidence maybe not. Hope you get your problem figured out soon.

P.s. when your screen goes out, in a pinch you can use your steering wheel controls and DIC to scroll through your stations and media if needed. Its a cluncky work around but helpful if it happens during a long commute. Good luck
