2018-01-06: Brief Poll: Is OnStar EV Miles Data Starting to clear up?

I have created several polls over the last couple of months to try to get a sense of status of OnStar issues EV miles data (and related) issues. This is a way to get a sense of whether it's "just me" or whether it might be predominantly one generation of volt or another, or something more complicated.

This new poll is intended to try to get an update, since in the last few days there have been indications, at least for some drivers, of the issues clearing up. However, it is hard to know how widespread this is, so taking a poll.

Just received this while trying to access out on-star account and look at plan info. We have had ongoing issues with VoltStats losing our OnStar connection. They are not a star in my mind unless you are talking 1 out 5 star rating :)

"We're sorry! We seem to be having some technical difficulties. Please try again later or call 1.888.4.ONSTAR to speak with an Advisor."
Hi Scottf200, did you vote in the poll? The only three votes cast so far all indicate their issues are clearing up. From your comments, it doesn't sound like you are able to access the OnStar information.
And oddly I'm one of the few remaining cars on VoltStats still polling OnStar and getting data back.
Hi Bazinga:

I am now able to see Voltstats data for the first time since I got my car used in October. You and others were very helpful to me as to realizing that something was going on that went beyond my individual experience.

My impression the last few days is that maybe things are turning around both with OnStar and with Volt Stats which gets the data from OnStar. Part of the reason for this poll is to get a sense of whether finally things are turning around. I am a little concerned I've worded the poll in a confusing way though.
Interim poll results - So far 8 out of 12 (66%) report that they were having issues, but that those issues are showing signs in the last few days of clearing up. 4 out of 12 report they were having issues but that the issues are persisting. Comparing for a moment to a similar (but not identical) poll from one week ago:

At that time, 13/23 56% of respondents reported no issues. (Again, it was not quite the same poll question, I know).

3 weeks ago poll:

no issues = 8/22 = 36% (some of those were saying issues with Volt Stats but not necessarily with getting EV miles and such via GM web or GM phone apps).

Further back there was this poll question I posed 4 weeks ago:
http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread...-Miles-and-other-data-through-the-web-or-apps
View Poll Results: Are you able to access your EV Miles and other data through the web or apps?
At that time 13/42 = 30% had no issues.

All of these polls had obvious imperfections including that I had a tendency to word things in a confusing way, sample size, other sample group issues (just the folks on this discussion board that happened to see and chose to vote), and maybe some fatigue of the topic or the polls, or of GM's long run of issues in this area. Also, I have no training in this, was just curious as to fellow drivers and what they were seeing. Also, maybe I made math mistakes in this summary, just adding things on the fly here. Also, the questions differed somewhat, and so not polling for precisely the same thing each time. Also, some of the polls are not yet closed.

Still, noting we have gone from 30% to 36% to 56% to 66% of respondents indicating no issues at the time of the poll, so maybe that is a sign that OnStar is clearing up issues drivers have been experiencing in accessing their EV Miles and other data.

** 2016 Volt still under OnStar coverage from purchase: Communication worked. Was able to look at most areas and able to send lock command. Was *not* able to look at efficiency info. Results: "Unable to update efficiency information. Try again?" I was *not* initially able to adjust my charging schedule. Retry failed several times. Both volts are parked next to each other and both lock commands worked.
** 2011 Volt not under OnStar coverage from purchase: Communication worked. Was able send lock command. Was able to look at efficiency info. I was *not* initially able to adjust my charging schedule. Made it to the very end of the multi-step process and then "We're sorry, but we were unable to connect with your Volt to update your Charge Mode setting." The "retry" option did work.

Hi - thanks for the details, appreciate it.

I've tried to stay away from focusing on Volt Stats because even though that site is apparently able to work some magic and present EV miles data, maybe even sometimes when drivers can't seem to find it on official GM websites and phone apps, in the end I think they're as dependent as anyone on GM/OnStar working to provide the data.

On the sites and apps for which GM is responsible for everything, it sounds like you are mostly able to see EV miles data (maybe after some fits and starts here and there) except you indicated that for one of your volts you were not able to look at efficiency info at myvolt.com. I guess if this means you were not able to see EV miles data, then to an extent you would fall in the "issues persist" area for purposes of this poll, on one of your vehicles.

For my one Volt, a point of clarification is that while I was able to see the most recent EV miles for the last day or so, and I think for lifetime ("efficiency information"?), the 7 day history was not yet showing up. I'm thinking that has a chance of clearing up or accumulating for display, once seven days have passed since the initial clearup. In any event, for now I am counting myself as one of the folks where the access to the data appears for the moment to have cleared up.

So, noting overall the final poll results now that it is closed, that 6 out of 18, 33 1/3 %, report that issues persist. This is lower than in previous polls from the last few weeks, but still not good.

At the same time, during the time the poll was open, some drivers seemed to report that the issues have cleared up for them. So, I'll probably come back to this in another day or two and start another short-term poll to see whether things have changed even more, just in the last few days.
OnStar and GM is so unreliable! On our 2016 Volt the Onstar interface doesn't even show current 7 day charging. [...]
Thanks, I posted another more recent poll here (to account for the fact that for some folks, things might have changed). Right now there are no "not working" votes, but if you are able to cast your vote there, as to things not working, it will represent that side of things better.
