I have one problem with my new (to me) 2016 Volt, but it's a big one. The driver's side sun visor has no resistance to hold it in place when unhooked. When I have positioned it to block afternoon sun from the side it swings to hit my head with every left turn. I have tried to fix up friction aiding doodads but they are always insufficient. I have tried to remove the visor using instructions found by searching but I can't get the tabs to release and if I try harder I will break something. I'd like to avoid replacement but I don't see any other course at this time.

1) Anyone else have this problem? What did you do?

2) If anyone can provide clearer instructions on how to remove a stubborn visor that much might be what I need to be able to create some permanent fix.

I haven't experienced that issue in my Volt but I've had other cars that had a similar problem with the visor staying up. Maybe some velcro tape might help?

It sounds like you have a defective visor. I have pulled visors from 4 year old Chevy Cruze's for use in my Bolt and none were lose.

There are friction fittings inside the visor that put resistance on the arm to keep the visor's "flipped" position steady. There is a similar resistance applied at the arm's pivot point where it's attached to the roof sheet metal. One of these is defective/failed.

You can remove the whole visor assembly by removing the roof liner cover plate and then 2 or 3 screws.

Thanks, Steverino. I am confirming that the defective function is the pivot. I have seen your thread and used it during my initial attempt at removal. My problem with removal was at the J-clip stage. I simply can not move a clip inwards enough to release a side. Once one J-clip is released I am sure removal will be simple. But the J-clips are very stubborn. I'll try again today.

Failure point identified. It's the pivot socket. It's split.

How far into the roof is the connection for the mirror light cable?

That makes sense.

The wires go to the overhead council. I think there is a connector between the two. If so you should be able to pull it out the mounting hole. If not, you'll need to open the overhead console.

I have applied a friction device between the cap and the bracket thing. Some adhesive velcro loop with a slightly too small hole punched in the center. It won't last but maybe it will help for a while until I get a replacement. Thanks for the help!

LOL. I did use some 1/2 of velcro but it's hidden (see below). It is a real headache on Saturday morning when the sun is low and I am cruising for yard sales. Lots of turns and the sun in front then at the side etc...

Does your car have more than 36k miles on it already? If not, it's still covered under the B2B warranty.

Reviving old thread. We got a CPO '18 volt and we have this loose pivot on the driver's side. Chevy says for some reason this is excluded in the added 12 m B2B warranty.
