Hi,

So I have a newly acquired 2014 fully loaded (RS) and want to update the grille to the 2016. I know the part numbers I need, already have the adaptive compliant emblem, but the grille for adaptive cruise is nearly $200 more than the standard. Both require you to buy the emblem separate so I am wondering if anyone knows the physical difference between the adaptive vs non-adaptive grille? I am wondering if I can save a couple hundred and get the non-adaptive and modify it? I assume the only difference is that the adaptive version has nothing blocking the path of the radar and the emblem covers that whilst still allowing the radar through.

Any help would be appreciated, most online stores still charge over $100 just for shipping so if I could save a bit that would be great.

I made the mistake of buying the emblem and the grill already had it installed. The material is different from what I understand. I still have an extra non adaptive cruise emblem sitting at my house because I didn’t know it was the complete assembly. Found that out when it was delivered. Did you shop it around? I could have sworn there were some that were only a few dollars more.

Hi yes the material for the emblem is different...plastic with a painted on type logo to allow the radar to pass through. I have that already and bought the correct one. As for the grille assembly, everywhere I have looked the Adaptive Cruise model is about $150-$200 more than the standard. I guess what I am trying to figure out is if I could dremel out the material and convert it. These cars being so rare its not like I can walk to a dealer parts department and have a look at them...all are special order. I would presume the adaptive version has nothing between the emblem and the radar, the emblem attaching to the surrounding plastic? If so I should be able to modify and remove the plastic between the emblem and the radar however I would need someone to chime in and let me know if this is the case.

Anyone do this conversion with the adaptive and remember what the grille looked like without the emblem? Is it open or solid plastic?

From what I've seen the upper ( the metal grille, there's also a lower one that's plastic ) is the same. The emblem is removable. The non AC is a plate. The AC one is a plastic dish. The emblmes/covers are the same size and cost the same. The back appears to be the same and if you remove the emblem the holes look the same.
The only difference is the AC version comes with the horn for the radar emitter from what I've seen. If you don't have that, I'm pretty sure the 2014 ac horn will not match up to the 2016 grill, either one.

Just as an FYI for anyone considering doing this, save your money and get the non-adaptive cruise grille! Ordered mine online along with the adaptive emblem and its a very straight forward swap. The grille came with the non-adaptive emblem so just popped it out, popped in the adaptive and everything works flawlessly.

Just so I’m clear you purchased a non acc grille and used the acc emblem from your existing grille. Was this a 2014? I have a 2014 w/acc and a crack in the grill. I really want to purchase the cheaper non acc grill.

Hi,

Are taking pictures of the swap...in case someone else might be interested in doing the same.

Did you also change the rear emblem?

Cheers!

So I am actually trading the car in tomorrow and will be removing the new grille and pacing the old one back on. I will take some pics tonight on the removal and then putting the old back on for reference. I will be selling both this, the hood trim, badges to anyone interested. Were only on the car for 4 months and my commute is about 2 miles so zero imperfections.

Ill report back with pics this weekend and post the items for sale.

Appreciate you taking the time to take pictures! Looking forward to it.

BTW do you have to remove the entire front bumper?

Hey all sorry for the lack of response, was out of the country and been rather busy with work. I unfortunately was not able to take any photos as I had to make the swap back to the orig. grille etc. in a short amount of time so I could trade the car in. I have posted the grill and hood trim to the For Sale section for anyone interested. I would be willing to help out with any instructions to do the swap. To be honest, its actually rather simple and should only take about an hour or so to do; I was able to do the entire swap (the second time) in about 45 Min.
