I recently purchased a VCX Nano MDI (OBD) Interface that included GDS2 software. I got it to access GM TIS2WEB SPS so I could fix an issue with my Volt. But, the GDS2 was a nice bonus.

Anyway, I connected it to my 2015 Spark EV with 11,000 miles to see what I could see. One of the HPCM2 data readouts is actually labeled "Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Capacity." I looked up that label and it was referenced in a thread here as a hex value representing the Amp-hour capacity of the battery with precision to 1/10th. In my case the hex value was 0209. That translates to 521, or 52.1Ah. The pack voltage on the same screen showed 395.7. Multiplying those two numbers and dividing by 1000 equals 20.61KWh.

I'm not sure if that number is total pack capacity, or usable. But either way, it's above what most people believe the total capacity of the 2015/16 LG battery is.

Interesting - I have 2015 with ~11k miles, and I do have VCX Nano with GDS2. Once I get a chance I will take a look what my spark ev battery capacity is. Using power screen and % vs kwhr consumed my battery has 17-18 kwhr capacity.

Keep in mind the power screen gives you the usable capacity, the VCX nano likely gives you the Total capacity.
Total capacity of around 21kwh (likely when new) is higher than I've ever seen for the 15/16. GM was always very cagey about the 15/16 total capacity. Maybe because they kept it the same as the 14 (21kwh) but lowered usable.

I had cross posted this in the Spark Forum. Apparently capacity is calculated using nominal voltage, which is 355V for the Spark. Mine was at close to full charge, causing the voltage to be higher and inflating my calculation.

Very worthwhile info. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. If anything this initial Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Capacity value will serve as a baseline for your Spark EV should your battery start showing signs of degrading several years down the road so to speak!:cool:
