Hello from sunny Portugal.

I bought a used Ampera here 3 weeks ago. A couple of days ago after driving over some very rough road in the middle of roadworks I returned home to find the car wouldn't charge and the message 'Service high voltage charging system' was displayed. My old Autel scanner read some codes but the message returns after clearing. Volt forums indicate that DTC P1FFF is 'locked' and can only be cleared by reflashing the HPCM2 module - assuming it's a false fault which seems to be fairly common.

There is little consumer protection here and caveat emptor definitely applies!

I took the car to the main Opel dealer in the state where I live and after 6 hours of dossing in the nearby shopping mall was told they 'didn't have the equipment to do it' and hadn't looked at the car. I was told to take it to the main dealer in Lisbon - more than 3 hours away.

I know I can register for tis2web and get an hourly/daily subscription, and hardware is pretty cheap (e.g. VCX nano) and reflash it myself with SPS.

Question: Can the basic tis2web/SPS subscription re-flash the HPCM2 module or does it require 'Enhanced Access' and therefore a DUNS number for a real company only?

Thanks in advance for any clues!

Not sure about international locations, but here in North America you can sign up for a 2 day SPS subscription, flash the HPCM2 and erase all faults. Driving on rough roads may displace the magnetic float inside the coolant tank and trigger the fault or it could be a defective reed switch which are prone to failure.

This issue is discussed at length here,
http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?255506-WOTs-COOLANT-LEVEL-SENSOR-SERVICE-HIGH-VOLTAGE-CHARGING-SYSTEM-MESSAGE-DEFEAT-PLUG/page24

The permanent solution is to install the WOT defeat plug and reprogram the HPCM2, which is what I did below.

I'm now charging, thanks WOT!

Thanks Garett (page 9) for the lowest cost DIY solution ... thanks WOT for everything else!

Did a daily erase of the POAA6/P1fff messages until the defeat plug arrived, installed WOT Defeat Plug, programmed HPCM2 with a VCX Nano via the ACDelco TDS website (2 day subscription) then hit the Erase Faults button after programming.

Done ... no messages ... charging Normal.

*** For those more technically inclined or without dealer support, the VCX Nano needs firmware updates via VXDIAG's VCX Manager to be used as a J-2534 pass-though programmer. Windows needs a Java update and the TDS website installs software before you get started. After that ... it's a 10 minute job! PM me for further details, this is not the forum to discuss SPS programming. ***

Thanks for the reply! Nobody knew on any of the European forums. Defeat plug will be next!

Answering myself in case it helps anyone else: Yes, with a standard (non-enhanced) tis2web account you can use SPS to reprogram the HPCM2 module and clear the locked fault code. My Ampera is charging once more.

I used a VCX Nano dongle, so with the cost of that, joining fee for the GM portal, plus 2x 1-hour subscriptions (I didn't realise the first hour I bought would start immediately - I didn't have the dongle at that point) cost me 170€ and saved me a 6-hour round trip plus probably a hotel for the night plus whatever the main dealer charged for the reprogram.

Win!

The GME InfoTech page is where to go for the Euro cars
They do have a wide range of subscription options for service programming access for reflashing providing you have a compliant J2534 device
https://www.gme-infotech.com/info.html
Depending on what module you are reflashing you may also require a security access code, so look for that on the CARPASS card hopefully retained in the glovebox materials.

Hello Murk,
I can try. The process has changed slightly in that the GME website no longer includes SPS programming in the basic 12€ TIS ,EPC, VIS subscription, you need the new SPS Vehicle Programming (Basic) subscription which is 35€ for 2hours. Be sure to select Opel/Vauxhall at the top and double-check immediately before paying. The (default) Chevrolet option will waste your money. Don't ask me how I know...

It seems AC Delco has shut down the TIS2 access to SPS. It seems you have to go through Techline Connect now. I'm struggling to get my VIN linked to my AC Delco subscription as well as get Techline Connect to see the VCX Nano. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Minoru,

I called TDS support today. They told me I need to buy GM GDS to diagnose some kind of communication problem in my car. It was an easy out from trying to help me.

I keep getting this E4399 error. Do you have any ideas?

Does the thing talk to the other modules, or does it not talk to ANY module? Because a ten-second Google suggests that the error code is "I can't communicate with that module", and that sound like either the VCX is stuffed, your onboard communications bus is stuffed, or the BECM is stuffed. If you can get the other modules to wake up and respond (like asking what version software they have), then it's probably the BECM, and you can start the process of replacing it to begin with.

Ok...I was able to get it to work. I uninstalled techline connect and java and everything related to the GM side and reinstalled with the VCX Nano software open. It was able to see the pass thru device.

BTW the VCX software installed 3 trojan viruses on my computer. It kinda ticks me off.

I got another error in Techline Connect via VCX Nano. Anybody has the same error, or know what is wrong?
