I just bought my 2015 premium second hand (from the dealer) just under 2 weeks ago, so i'm still getting used to things.

2 days ago, after an intermediate stop on a 2-hour drive, my check engine light came on. i pressed the onstar button, and asked about the error. i was told that it was the battery heating/cooling system, and i should get it checked out at the dealer within 7 days. a bit later, i called again to ask for the error code (forgot to ask the first time), and was given the two codes in the title.

The next morning, the light was still on, but after a second drive, the light went off, and hasn't come back.

Glitch? or should i be taking the car in to the dealer?

DTC P15C5 is a code related to "Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Position Sensor Performance" so this basically indicates that the feedback from the position sensor within the heater/engine flow control valve was not within an expected range for a given commanded position of the valve.

We've seen this before and almost always the DTC returns when the conditions are met again (usually when the HVAC is being commanded to a particular mode) I suspect the valve will need to be replaced so at the very least you may wish to get it into the dealer to officially log the DTC on a work order, and to give the technician the opportunity to trigger the DTC during functional tests that would prompt the immediate replacement of the valve.

I finally have an update, as I got the car into the dealer today, and they found a few more stored codes:

P15C5
P26A5
P26A9

They said it's the coolant bypass valve (as you also indicated), and said that it's not convered under the drivetrain warranty. so, it will be just under $400 to replace.

it's strange because when i last called onstar to get the codes, they said that the P26A9 code is related to the charging system, so i was expecting the repairs to be under warranty.

No, all 3 of those DTCs are related to issues with the Engine Coolant Bypass Valve.

BUT, the "PORT VALVES" actually is something listed as warranty-able under the terms of the 8-year 100.000 mile VOLTEC warranty

It's just that the term gets missed as these two valves are called something different in the parts system

What is meant by the Voltec term "port valves" is the 3-port valve (aka Engine Coolant Bypass Valve) and the 4-port valve (aka Battery Coolant Bypass Valve) The "x-port valves: were terms coined back in MY2011 with the launch of the Gen1 Volt but were later changed to be more reflective of their actual duties. Yet the old terms remains in the warranty booklets and other GM service and training documents.

To further the confusion the 3-port valve is also referred to as the "Heater Water Shutoff Valve" in the replacement procedure in the service manual

So stick to your guns and refer to list of VOLTEC WARRANTY components in your glovebox warranty booklet. If it's missing you can download the PDF on the Chevrolet.com site

I was referring to the OPs statements that any of the 3 DTCs were somehow related to the battery charging systems- WOT

Thanks. I've got a call in to gm to get confirmation of the warranty claim.

It's not very clear from the warranty book, because the "port valves" are only listed in the emissions warranty parts list, which I wouldn't even have read to clarify the voltec section.

A partial update, in case anyone is following this:

I spoke with GM, and they asked for the part number to confirm the warranty status. i spoke with the dealership today, and got the part number 22987494, which based on goodle searches seems to be related only to HVAC. i still need to call GM back to give them the info and get a final answer.

I have had this same issue starting with the P26A9 code and an OnStar email notification that the Lithium-Ion battery system needs service within 7 days.

I've been told by the service tech that the Heater Water Shutoff Valve Part Number: 22987494 is NOT covered by the Limited Voltec Component Warranty. Has anyone found a digital version of this warranty or the 2015 Warranty and Owners Assistance Information Book?

My volt is a 2015 with 67100 miles, so its well within the warranty time and mileage terms.
