Driving a 2015 Volt since new.

Last year or the year before I lost my car phone; I believe I was told it was because "3G" was being phased out. I was sad.

Now in 2022 I'm reading that On*Star itself will disable at the end of the year, because "2G" is being phased out. I am sad.

Isn't the WiFi hotspot on 4G? So I'm not losing that?

That leaves my remote application which I definitely use to start and unlock the car. What radio system does the myChevrolet app use?

I am sad. And confused. (If you're a Trekkie, think pakleds)

On star has one cell phone on board, but it likely has a chip that allows it to work with multiple bands like 2G and 3G. I don’t know whether it supports 4G or not, but I don’t even maintain my onstar account anymore anyway. My 5g iPhone works just fine and I’m willing to give up remote start and use my key fob

Your 2015 has 4G LTE connectivity for OnStar, WiFi hotspot, and in-car calling. They wanted to sell me in-car calling last year, but I had to use the minutes within 3 months and they wouldn’t roll over when renewing. So it’s a crappy deal, but it’s not discontinued except on new vehicles.
