I think there was already a thread on this topic. Perhaps they need to be merged.

Very pricey ! For $159 you can buy a Garmin with lifetime maps. For $20 more you also get lifetime traffic updates. I don't think the gm navigation updates are worth it.
I don't think so either, but it's a nice backup. MOST roads don't change much in a decade, and if it takes an extra mile or two due to an exit moving or something, it'll still get me to civilization.

Does anyone know if there is a way to check the map version that is currently installed? I purchased my Volt off lease and it is possible, however unlikely, the previous owner updated the map. I did RTFM and did not see a mention of this and even went through all of the menus. I have only had the Volt for a week but so far I think I like it.

As far as I know this map is very recent and there have been no previous updates. IF there is any map information, it should be listed in the software information screen. at the home position on your center screen, scroll to the last page and you should see a page for software information. That lists the currently installed firmware/files and should include the navigation map file information.

The screen with the software revision numbers is rather cryptic. Without any names to reference it is impossible to tell what they are. Well, impossible for me at least. Maybe I will purchase the update and then should be good for quite a while. Thank you.

There is now a $20 discount and free shipping for my 2013 volt. After taxes it was $153 for me. Although I use waze and google maps. I like using the dash nav most days. I find it easier to see the map on the center console, and I also like setting drivers side display to display the next turn. And although it rarely happens, nav apps on my smart phone have failed a number of times. The in dash nav has never died on me so far.
