Assuming it can still be driven normally with that failed (not sure about that), I would just drive it on gas until it's done. There's risk in putting too much money toward the repairs, given the battery age and lack of suitable replacements.

The car was babied by the original owners, other than apparently doing lots of road trip driving, but my kids have been kinda tough on it. It really needs a new front bumper cover, for instance.
