Hello all.

My 2012 Volt's lock/unlock button does not work on the driver's side. Passenger side works fine.

I'm not sure if it's related or not, but I've had issues with the rear lift gate as well. I've replaced the button on the lift gate and the latch its self. No luck. If I'm persistent, I can EVENTUALLY get the lift gate to open. I'm sure you can imagine, very annoying. I've tried it with the car on and off, and with the remote in my hand.

Remotes work fine. I can unlock all the doors with the remote, but I can not unlock the drivers side with the remote in my pocket by pressing the release button on the door handle.

Is there more than one receiver for the key fobs?

Thanks for any help.

Each handle has its own antenna and there's a master antenna in the black box on the windshield (but I don't think that controls the outdoor proximity buttons, just the fob button presses and the remote-inside-cabin sensing).
Make sure you've checked each as a point of failure.

Two thoughts:

Does your Gen 1 door lock/unlock button on the right side of the center display arrangement work correctly to lock and unlock all doors/hatch? Hatch unlocking sometimes depends on the car being in Park to prevent the car rolling away if the driver gets out to open the hatch without making sure the car can’t roll...

Have you evaluated the various config settings for Passive Door Lock under Vehicle Settings configuration menu to see if that is the problem with pushing the driver door button to unlock (although the choices usually are driver door/all doors)?

The inside lock/unlock buttons on the center console work fine. As far as I can tell everything else seems to work normally. When I walk away from the car the doors lock automatically. (I'm guessing that's on a timer, that option seems to occur weather in close to the car or walking away).

I know there are options that can be changed on the cars' configuration. I'll make changes and see if anything behaves differently.

Yes, my car is always in park if I'm behind it. (I know what you mean though, there are obvious safety controls in place to make sure we don't do anything stupid. Like not being able to take the car out of park if it's plugged in).

I ordered a new receiver. Not expensive. After I plug it in I'll check everything and I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your replies.

I had all 4 door buttons fail on my 2012, three of them failed under warranty. The door handles had to be replaced (and painted) to fix the problem. I think I read somewhere it's a moisture problem in the switch. The dealer I purchased from gives free car washes for life, which could have been the cause. Haven't had a problem in the two years since they were replaced. The rear passenger door button failed outside of warranty, but I haven't felt the need to have it replaced.

My rear hatch button sometimes takes a bit to recognize the remote, but I haven't had a problem with it not opening at all.

That's bad news, but thanks LANMAN. Having the door handles painted is not good news. Maybe my body shop could help me out with repainting. My rear hatch not opening is a worse problem.

I replaced receiver but it had no effect. I found a used one for $15 so not a huge loss. I'll resell online.

Thanks.

I've run out of ideas. I replaced my rear passenger door handle and it still does not work. I'm fortunate that someone posted a good YouTube video on how to replace.

Locks and unlocks just fine with the remote. Really weird.

I still haven't figured out my problem with the hatch either. I can hear the relay clicking in the fuse box when I press the liftgate release button, but it won't open. The button and the latch are new.
