My 2012 Volt broke down and the dealership is quoting me $7500 for repairs. They would replace the motor 1? in the transmission and the AC compressor.

To make a long story short my Volt coasted to a stop and would never turn back on, this was after a self-repair on the bearing that makes the skill-saw noise if the plastic cage failed. But I drove on the repair for a good 4,000 miles at least so I don't think that was the problem.

I'm wondering if I can just get a used transmission off of ebay or somewhere like that and do the repair myself.
There's a bit of confusion though. There's an OPT YK8, and WITHOUT OPT YK8. Which one do I need?

And does anyone have any tips of doing a complete transmission replacement?

Call the dealership, have them email you the RPO list for the car. This is normal to ask for, and will take them 30 seconds.
