Looking for some advice. I have a 2011 Chevy Volt that was recently in an accident. The input shaft was split inside the transmission (picture attached). Does anyone have experience with this type of repair? Is this something that requires the whole transmission to be replaced or can it be replaced by the wheel well? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Okay so I ordered the output shaft assembly and took a video of the broken one spinning. I didn't hear any unusual noises coming from it so I assume everything is good behind the output shaft assembly. Here is the video:

Your problem is finding a place on the broken shaft to pull it out with a slide hammer. That housing that the shaft is in unbolts, so maybe there's a place to grab it inside.

If it were mine I'd weld a bolt to it then use the bolt to pull it out. However that shaft is heat treated and very hard. It may be difficult to get something to stick to it.

Why not let the insurance company take care of it?
