Ultium Cells plans at least to triple its number of employees this year to more than 600 employees by the end of the year as it gets closer to the production launch in August.
The joint venture between General Motors and South Korea’s LG Energy Solution to mass produce battery cells for electric vehicles, had 200 workers onboard for its still-under-construction factory in Lordstown at the end of 2021.
The $2.3 billion plant is adjacent to GM’s former assembly plant. Another Ultium Cell plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., is under construction and a third is planned in Lansing, MI. The Spring Hill plant s scheduled to open in late 2023. Site preparation in Lansing will begin this summer, and the plant is scheduled to open in late 2024.
So new multi-billion dollar battery plants coming on line in 2022, 2023, and 2024. If only GM would take EV's seriously... /s
