12 volt power tap off of battery

I needed a 12 VDC power tap for my RC aircraft recharger. The "cigarette lighter" would not handle the power requirements reliably.

Note that it IS possible with this multipurpose device to apply 14.2 VDC to a "cigarette lighter" and keep the main rails at the higher voltage in case of the dreaded BECM issue.
I thought I heard that was a proposed "bandaid" fix. Just a thought...

The "cigarette lighter" would not handle the power requirements reliably.
Why? The lighter port can handle 20A, maybe more. You have a 18A charger.

And there're terminals under the hood with 12V from the battery to use for "jump-starting". You could use them.

Your design needs a 20A fuse or circuit breaker in a line just in case of a short circuit event...
