Chevy Volt General Discussion, News, and Events
My work has a free to use charger for us, so I would always fill up when at work. I'm in Florida, so almost all flat-land and warm most of the year. Only snows when pigs fly, so very rarely. I'm considering a used 16/17 Volt, with a roundtrip commute of 56 miles (60% town/40% highway). In your...
  2. Buying a used Volt 2015 vs 2016,2017

Buying, Leasing & Selling - Chevy Volt
Hello everyone, I'll be purchasing a used Volt and am trying to decide between a 2015 or 2016-17.Most important factors are reliability and range. Either way I'll be getting a fully loaded model with 35K miles or less. My daily commute is 43 miles round trip, cannot charge at work. I live in...
  3. Cold Weather Battery Drop-Off

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
Nine months of ownership for my 2018. When the weather was warm, my electric range after charging said 63-65 miles. Now the weather is cold (30s and 40s) and it's dropped to 45 miles. I expected a drop-off but that seems pretty big. Is that normal? Thanks, all.

Hi, I am based in the UK where we have 218 remaining Volts on the road (and a few more Opel Amperas). I got mine at a insurance auction after it was hit in the rear. Nothing a body jack and a hot air gun couldnt fix. I love it. I get 40+ miles on a charge - even seen 53 once. I have been...

  6. Charge-to-full time (18.4kWh at 3.6kW?)

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
I'm considering buying a PHEV to save gas money for my daily commute: My drive is 21.7 miles, 18.0 miles of which is on a fairly-flat 65mph highway (75mph average speed). I have access to a level-2 charger at work for 3-hours max/day. Despite searching multiple forums and websites, I can't seem...
  7. What would be your ideal Electric to Gas range ratio?

Suggestions for GM - Chevy Volt
Taking limitations into consideration, for me, I'd say 1/3 electric 2/3 gas, for example, 100 miles electric; 200 miles gas. I think 50/50 too. I'd even go for 100 miles electric range; 100 miles gas range.

  9. Gas range very low

Problems, Driver Warnings or DTCs - Chevy Volt
Hey all, I have a '13 volt. when I have a full tank of gas, the volt says I have between 200 and 220 mi of gas range, not the advertised 300+ miles. my oil life is 75% my tires are all between 34-38psi does anyone know why I am not getting the advertised range, or anything I can do? Thanks!
  10. Too much EV range???

    Generation 1 Volt (2011-2015)
Hi Volt community. I got my 2014 metallic silver volt from Carvana about a month ago. I am obsessed. I love this car. I have noticed that after a full charge, the electric range keeps getting higher and higher. The car is rated to get 38 miles per full charge, but most recently it's showing 46...
  11. Scatter Plot of the Affect of Temperature on miles / kWh on my Morning Commute

Chevy Volt General Discussion, News, and Events
Back in January I started keeping track of the temperature and kWh used for my 19.1 mile commute to work. I excluded those days my son missed the bus and I had to drop him off at school and those days with adverse weather conditions. I always drive the same route, always go without climate...
  12. 2014 Gas Range

Problems, Driver Warnings or DTCs - Chevy Volt
I recently purchased a 2014 Volt. The battery seems to work fine however I don't think I have seen its full potential being that here in KC, MO we are in the dead of winter. When fully charged it estimates 31 miles. I am hoping that estimation it higher with warmer weather however the battery...
  13. 2014 Volt - REduced EV range

    Generation 1 Volt (2011-2015)
Hi all I'm new here and this is my first post. I bought a used 2014 Volt in June and imported it to Iceland, Europe. When I got it the EV range was around 40 miles. In the beginning of October the range started to gradually degrade and is now 26 miles. Has anyone experienced something like...
  14. Range Drop in Wintertime for Gen 2

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
We saw a brief weather drop down to about 50 degrees for a week or so. During this time, my range went from about 68 mi(when it was high 70s outside) to about 51mi. That's horrific! I'm hoping it doesn't get worse than that, but this is only the fall - can't imagine how bad it will get with...
  15. New Owner: My range is creeping up!

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
Finally got my 220v setup working (thank you Chris TX) so I can more easily fully charge the car. First time, it read 56 miles at full charge, second time (yesterday) it read 58, this morning it reads 61 miles. My driving technique is improving ... where can I expect the range to level off at?
  16. optimal EV range best practices

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
Hi there, just wanted to get a sense from other Volt users what they're doing to optimize the EV range from their 2016 Volt. I personally find myself shifting to L when driving in the city, and normal D with paddle usage when on the highway. I'm not sure whether constantly shifting between L...
  17. POLL: Your Gen2 average EV only range

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
Just pick up a 2017 myself less than a week ago, already seeing more than 20% increase on my EV only range compared to my 2013. Here in Quebec temperatures are in the low 40s (around 5 degress Celsius) so I am curious on what to expect for warmer days! In cold conditions, my average range is...
  18. Strangely increasing range

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
I usually have 52 miles range on the dashboard during normal temps. A bit less when it's cold. So I was surprised to find it said 54 miles on Monday. Then Tuesday morning it said 57. Hmmm. Wednesday it said 59 miles range. The temp outside was in the 50's. I drove about 4 miles to work...
  19. Cold Weather Electric Driving

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
In November 2016 I got a Kinetic Blue 2016 LTZ with black leather and all the safety options. When I drove it out of the lot it forecast 34 EV. After a few days in warm weather I was up to 58 EV. As it gets colder I've found the EV drops to as low as 48 when I pull out of the garage with a...
  20. New 2016: 71 mile range on first full charge (downhill).

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
I got my 2016 Volt last Friday. So far I've only run out one full charge and got 71 miles with a 3 mile estimate showing. Of course, my home is 1250' higher in elevation than my final destination. I started with 50 or 51 miles showing on estimated electric range on my first full charge at...
