  1. ERDTT bypass sensor side effects & problems?

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
Greetings all fellow Volt drivers and experts. I have a bit of information to share after having installed joesonvolt's ERDTT bypass temperature sensor I bought on eBay. I have a 2018 Volt Premier, the Cajun Red (or is it Crystal Red?) paint color, that I bought and began driving at the end of...
  2. Winter's coming, ERDTT defeat installed

    Chevy Volt Accessories and Modifications
With winter approaching and a relatively nice day, I decided to install my modified ambient outside air temperature sensor. It has a small 1/8W, 39k Ohm resister wrapped around the two sensor poles. This resistor tricks the sensor to see a higher temperature than actual. The result: the Volt...
  3. EMM achieved, Yay!

Care, Maintenance & Service - Chevy Volt
I'm proud to have finally joined the Engine Maintenance Mode club. This is a great day. It means I'm not using gas anymore and the Volt had to fire up the gas engine for a few minutes to keep things working and maintained. For years I have seen posts by those complaining about EMM, but for me...
  4. Hack achieved! ERDTT is now ERDTD (Engine Running Due To Driver)

    Gen2 Volt Accessories and Modifications
What I wanted: Normal operation when desired Force off mode when making short trips below ERDTT temp. Force on mode when making long trips (further than full charge) but still want SOME heat (ie: ~34°) Well, this is exactly what I've got now. :D I've got 3 resistors I can choose from: a fixed...
  5. Normal Gas Usage (ERDTT)?

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
I was just curious if this would look like the expected gas usage in the winter months due to ERDTT coming on. On short trips lately, ERDTT has been engaging and using a fair bit of fuel for very short trips. Don't mind the dust in the photo!
  6. Avoiding ERDTT by having no gas in the tank

    Generation 2 Volt (2016-2020)
Has anyone ever tried this approach to avoiding ERDTT situations? If there is no gas in the tank, will the car simply cease to function, or is this a way of effectively forcing the car not to start the engine at ~15 degree temperatures?
  7. ERDTT when its HOT outside?

    Generation 1 Volt (2011-2015)
This was a new one on me - maybe others have seen this behavior. Here is the scenario: Driving home from my Dad's house which involves a hill climb that is borderline mountain-mode needed (I have been caught out once on it with the reduced power thing). I engage mountain mode as I was...
  8. ERDTT Mod Installation Help

    Chevy Volt Accessories and Modifications
I purchased the mod found here: http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?143882-Just-installed-new-model-ERDTT-switch&highlight=ERDTT I didn't have any trouble installing it, but am getting readings that don't seem at all appropriate and am curious if anyone else that has tried this has...
  9. Fan Only provides plenty of heat (after engine warm)

Chevy Volt General Discussion, News, and Events
This is my second winter of driving my Volt. I did not realize last winter that I could get heat with Fan Only. I always used ECO to get heat. My drive is 56 miles round trip and I usually get 28-34 electric miles when the temperature is in the 20-30s. This winter, by chance, I selected FAN...
  10. Petition to improve ERDTT behaviour

Suggestions for GM - Chevy Volt
Dear fellow Volt owners, and prospective owners, GM did announce that the infamous ERDTT (Engine Running Du To Temperature) - only used to provide cabin heat - will be back in the 2016 Volt. In northern countries, the use of ERDTT makes the Volt highly inefficient in short trips, even just to...
  11. ERDTT add-on module options

    Chevy Volt Accessories and Modifications
Alot of people ask me for a controllable from inside the car ERDTT disabling add-on module or a tri-mode option for enabling ERDTT at any temperature for long trip what do you think of it ?
  12. ERDTT, software update, now shuts down after temperature rise above set point

Chevy Volt General Discussion, News, and Events
HI, I have a 2014 volt. I have notice twice this winter that ERDTT now shuts down by itself during a single trip after temperature rises over set point. I mean without shutting off the car to reset. It was not like that last winter, after being on, it stays on whatever the temperature change...
  13. Engine running due to battery temp observations

    Chevy Volt Engineering and Design
Well, I just got home after my car was parked outside in -18 to -21C for nearly 10 hours. I wasn't expecting the battery to be locked out so easily (people quoted 'days' for this kind of thing to happen), but instead of normal ERDTT to greet me (which I hate enough as it is), the car hesitated...
  14. noob question about ICE starting in cold weather (ERDTT?)

Newcomers to GM-VOLT.COM (See here for FAQs)
Hi kids, so this is my second winter with an early build 2014... love the rig overall of course. I've been lurking at this site for a while, answering most of my questions without needing to post. However, finally I have to break the silence. I bought in late 2013, so I had the choice between a...
  15. ERDTT Modification Options

    Chevy Volt Accessories and Modifications
For those aggravated by the ICE running during short trips in the winter months, there are a few mods for preventing or delaying ERDTT. Note that employing some of these mods may or may not cause warranty issues if there is a problem later on. The location of the air temperature sensor that...
  16. ICE running due to maint. just a couple days after ERDTT.

Chevy Volt General Discussion, News, and Events
Hi, Had my ICE do a maintenance burn for about 10 minutes Saturday. Thursday it ran for 20 minutes due to cold temperatures, was 0 here. The maintenance was at a higher rpm (going by sound), I was surprised it had to run at all because of running on Thursday. I have a 2013. It ran...
  17. Heated garage, dash shows 17°F

Problems, Driver Warnings or DTCs - Chevy Volt
Here's an odd one. I returned home from a long trip where the car was outside for about 10 hours. I parked the car in my garage. I have my garage heated to 48°F. After charging for about 3 hours, we decided to go out for dinner. So I unplugged, opened the garage door, powered up and the ERDTT...
  18. Trick to keep engine off in cold temps worked today in 9 degrees F....

Chevy Volt General Discussion, News, and Events
I didn't think it would work in such cold temps but it did. Keeping the climate on 73F in comfort mode, with the fan on low, caused the engine to come on once in a 40 minute drive. The engine comes on once right when you start the car and that's it. This means that the coolant can reach it's...
  19. Are the ERDTT intervals based on time or miles when 25F or less out?

Chevy Volt General Discussion, News, and Events
Assuming the temp remains 25F or less (2012 Volt). From the first time it goes on to the second time on the same trip, is it based on distance or time? Thanks, MrEnergyCzar
  20. Dealer resetting the ERDTT to the lower value on 2012s and earlier

    Generation 1 Volt (2011-2015)
This is brought over from another thread. The topic concerns the ability of the dealer to set the ERDTT to the lower setpoint on cars (2012 and earlier) that cannot do it via the config screen. This is pretty useful information. Thanks FrankIII. In Toronto it was often below -3C but not...
