    Generation 1 Volt (2011-2015)

This was sold shortly after listing - Thanks! I have a Voltec SPX 240V 15A L2 EVSE that was recommended for use with our Volts that I am not using. It has worked flawlessly for over a year but I upgraded to a 40A EVSE to use with my Rav4. I've got it setup as a portable unit with an L6-20 plug...

    Generation 1 Volt (2011-2015)
Just thought I'd share this. I received my SPX Voltec charger over the weekend and got it installed yesterday. My brother's coworker is a electrician on the side so he hooked me up. He charged $30 and another $12 for 20 amp breaker. I sometime would go out and come home a little late and would...
  10. Got my 240V charger installed today

    Generation 1 Volt (2011-2015)
I know many have horror stories about SPX, but it was painless and quick for me. Ordered their $495 Voltec, they came back to me with an installation cost. They were going to install it last week, but I was in Bogota for business, so we scheduled it for this morning. They gave me a window of...
  11. new 240v charger installed baby!!

    Generation 1 Volt (2011-2015)
I got this baby installed today from a friend who is a master electrician. He wired it up to a 40 amp (two 20's) so that I have some room to spare for future charger needs (next electric car that can use more amps!!). It will be a 30 min change to switch out the voltec with another more...
  12. Anyone else make their SPX charger "portable"? Or WANT to?

    Chevy Volt Accessories and Modifications
I built this arrangement for myself, and when I showed it to my brother, he asked me to make a "travel kit" for him as well since he's on the road a lot. I'm curious how many others would be interested in obtaining a "Plug-N-Play" Plug kit for their Level 2 chargers. I built them...

Okay, so I've ordered my Volt, and I'm excited to get it, but I'm a little overwhelmed  by all of the choices for charging. I think it'd be beneficial to go Level 2, so I'm looking for input. I found this excellent, informative post...
  14. Why does it take less total energy to fast charge?

    Chevy Volt Engineering and Design
What is the reason it takes about .5 KWH less to recharge the battery on 240v? Is it strictly because it does it faster thus the idle Volt draw is lower over shorter time? Or is there some electrical reason? Just a laymen here.... MrEnergyCzar
  15. 240V Charging More Efficient Than 120V?

Electric Vehicle Batteries & Plug-In Charging
Is it? In either case the voltage has to be boosted to reach a voltage level of about 300V+ in order to charge the battery. Boosting voltage always entails losses but since 240V charging doesn't have to go as far, one might conclude that the losses would be less.
