You might find if you inspect the cable closely that the cable type, wire gauge/# of conductors and voltage rating are stamped into the jacket. Sometimes it's so slight that it's easy to miss. I can't say for sure that all EVSE cables are SOOW, but all of the ones I've seen are. It's that very flexible synthetic rubber casing.

Home Depot sells it.

Larger diameter wire has less resistance. The cord stays cooler.

Use a decent pair of wire strippers like these:

I see you guys are recommending 12-3. What is the difference between that and 10-3?

Get 10/3. Anything that accepts a 12 AWG wire will take a 10. You probably know 10 handles more amps. There's no such thing as too safe. What you're looking for is called "SO" cord (sold by the foot) like this: 10/3 SOOW

Does the 10 represent the gauge?
