      Cool idea. Please post some pics of your handiwork. I always jump into using plastidip because I like to get rid of all the chrome anyway, so if I get a g2 the grills will get darkened.

      You probably have tons of tape left. You might want to try cutting the right shaped trapezoid to fit in better with the existing pattern on the grill.
